Dropped down the rankings

I have a site which was on page 3 of Google for a keyword. It was holding steady there for about 1 or 2 weeks.

Now the site isn't even anywhere on the first 25 pages. What could be the reason for this? I haven't blasted the site with any kind of link building software or anything like that.

I was submitting the site to 5 web directories per day for the last few weeks. Could this have anything to do with it? Ive been told that you can't submit to too many web directories per day so i don't see why that would have caused it.

I know the site is still indexed because it appears when i type site:http://domainname.com in google.

  • It doesn't matter. Page 3 means nothing. Seriously. Why worry about that?

If you are the LAST entry on page 1 you are lucky to pull 3%.

Being on page 3 means squat.

So the most important thing you can do right now is look at where all your traffic comes from. That's what Google Analytics is for.

    Find those keyword phrases.

Forget about what you have already proven you can not rank for and figure out why you are ranking for those phrases and how you can leverage that.

You don't have to be on the first page to make money... it helps, but only a very select few are going to take those spots.

But you had damn well better learn how to maximize the traffic you do have. So that is where you start.

Those things happens from time to time and is something out of our control. I recommend you to begin some good backlinking for the site. Use social networds, do some social bookmarking and some article submission and i`m sure your website will be back. Be sure to use unique content each time you publish something and don`t forget to ping all the url`s created.

This is referred to as the "google dance" and it is absolutely normal & to be expected, especially with new sites. Your site should rise back up to page 3 again soon.
