Blog comments, to allow or not to allow

So I was wondering what the consensus is on allowing comments on your blog or not allowing them.

In my news sites I always disallowed them as I didn't want to deal with moderating them and didn't think they needed to be a part of a news organization. I don't really want to deal with the moderation part of running blogs, so I am tempted to just not allow them. Is there any reason I should take comments to a blog, or just continue not allowing them on my blogs?

I hate comments on blogs, most are fake, besides it dilutes the on-page seo (keywords) you've already worked for.

I allways allow comments only to members of my sites !

They need to register on my blog in order to post a comment !

It's a good way to interact with readers.....needs some moderation though.

You would be better off integrating Facebook comments on your page instead, that way the comments are most likely real comments by Facebook users instead of spam comments and it is 10 times more powerful also.

If it makes sense for your site to allow comments, then do it. If they are just going to be something extra, then don't.

Allowing comment is just like adding more content to the page.
This is one of the SEO benefits.

        It's a question I myself grapple with.

Less and less sites allow do follow comments these days...and yet, I've seen sites that allow dofollow having very good Alexa rank and holding good ranking for numerous long tail keywords. Those comments don't seem to be affecting them.

Blog Commenting is very useful in SEO and it gives you traffic and back links but assure first that blog is dofollow and with good PR or not.

If you are going to support the comments then you can. If not, then don't becuase you will get spammed to no end.

well that's a minefield of the question if I ever saw one. I think it comes down to how much you're going to be willing to manage them. with everyone around here knowing how to take advantage of blog comments article writing and everything else that goes into the mass automation techniques I think you're opening yourself up to mass spam

    Stay away
