SEO and Parked Domains

I have a web client who has a setup that goes like this:

There main web site was DomainA.com and then later they bought DomainB.com set up hosting under DomainB.com and then built a website around DomainB.com on a separate server from DomainA.com.

Later on they redirected DomainA.com to the IP address of DomainB.com's server and set DomainA.com as a parked domain to DomainB.com.

Since DomainA.com is the domain they have been branding with their question to me was can they SEO optimized for DomainA.com.

Their DomainB.com website is a wordpress install so I'm assuming if I go in there and simply change out the main URL to the site from DomainB.com to DomainA.com then because DomainA.com is a parked domain it would work and I would be able to SEO optimize the site.

Can someone tell me if I'm right or wrong here?

hey no offense but your post is really hard to understand. On one hand you're saying domain a was the original... But they built a site on domain B ... And then later parked domain-a as a "as a parked domain to DomainB.com.".

I'm sorry but I don't understand how a domain can be parked and also reference another domain... A domain is either parked or redirected... Not both.

What I think you're saying is that content and branding was built for one domain... And the domains have switched places. This would be a bad move because if everything has been engineered for one site that is not good to hop it to another site unless you are going to do a 301 for the entire site ( not just park it ).

so that may be the only place where there is a problem... If a domain was built and SEO for it was performed and branding was applied... Then you need to stick with that content set not necessarily that domain. So it sounds like you just need to redirect the built domain to the current domain without parking it.

without clarification all I can say for sure is keep all your Seo efforts focused on one domain and one set of content. Don't rig things up with domain parking.

      Let me clarify...

We have two servers. Server A was originally set up for DomainA.com in which the company was launched with. Many scripts are on that server that run backend data. Some of the scripts on Server A are accessed as such subdomain.domainA.com by the public. These need to stay.

So we set up a new server server, Server B, and set up a new site under the branding of DomainB.com.

Our branding to the public is DomainA.com. Since we cannot point the name servers of DomainA.com to Server B we parked the domain over at Server B by pointing the DomainA.com using an A record to the IP address of Server B.

So DomainA.com's DNS A record points to the IP address of Server B.

If we build up an SEO campaign for DomainA.com will the search engines see it as being legit or will it see DomainB.com as the real address?

        I left this out..

currently if you go to DomainB.com/some-page and if you do DomainA.com/some-page they go to the same page content.
