How valuable is a back link without anchor text?

I recently had some back links outs sourced & found some of the links without anchor text, just the URL.

Will this kind of back link still be valuable?

Before all the natural url freaks start posting!

Those links are fine. You can still stuff a keyword in the url.

      Thanks

It's the index page URL which does contain the main target keyword.

So Google will look at the keywords in the URL & increase ranking according to keywords in the URL?

        Hi BarryOnline,

All backlinks have anchor text, it just happens to be your URL in this case.

As Yukon indicated, if you include keywords in your URL then you are optimizing for those keywords. If not you may still have PR passed through that backlink which you can then channel through keyword anchor text on your internal links.

It's a good idea to get backlinks with both anchor text and non anchor text.. this way your link building efforts appear to be more natural. Also, make sure you switch up your anchor text as well, and don't use the same anchor every single time.

Sometimes I even use anchors such as 'homepage' or 'click here' when building a large number of links. The idea here is to mix it up.

Think of it like this... If you were actually commenting on someone's blog, or in a forum, and wanted to share a link, wouldn't you just paste the URL in? I doubt you're going to take the time write the html for an anchor text link.

Not saying anchor text doesn't matter, but the kind of links you describe, especially if they're on blogs or in forums are fine. Good to change things up a little.

Backlinks without anchor text is also valuable but very less.
