This will probably seem like a dumb question, but I am a newbie here.

Whenever I try to place a sidebar adsense ad on my site it's ending up at the top of the site and just creating a huge space between the top of the site and where the site actually starts.

How do I effectively place these ads on the side? I already have a top banner ad that works fine.

    You need to format your site correctly, using tables would be best.
    The columns need to be top aligned.
    I'm not going to give a tutorial on tables if you are not familiar with them.
    You can google it. Or find a site that is similar, and copy the code.
    One easy one I like is school-grants.org

    It may also be that you are altering code and have no idea what to look for.
    Load the site, then view the source code. Take the adsense code off before
    you do this. Then find the spot you want it.

    If you are altering wordpress or something similar, it can be a bear to find
    the right spot.

    A simple way around all this for you is to find the <body> tag, and immediately
    below this add a center tag and the 728x90 ad block.

    If you are not up to the task, a fellow warrior will do it quick and easy
    for a small fee I'm sure.

    I assume you aren't using antiquated tables ( :p ) and are using <div> and css...

    Either way, place your AdSense code between a <div> tag made to float either left or right...

    <div style="float:right; padding-left:10px;">
    <script....ADSENSE CODE.../script>
    <div>
    ...this will put your adsense to the Right of the content with some padding on the left hand side.

    Change the padding to either left or right so your content has room to breath. If you are still struggling then just shoot me a PM and I can help you out.

    Thanks for the help guys.

    I've successfully placed the ads in the sidebar for my site. The ads look fine on my laptop and on my sisters laptop. I checked out the site on my desktop, however, and the ads pushed my site down below the ads. This was caused by the screen resolution. I changed my monitor's resolution and they appeared fine.

    Is this something to be concerned about? Is there a way to make sure the ads don't affect my presentation on anyone's computer? I would hate to think that some people won't be able to view my site correctly.

    What do you think?

  • Sounds more like a how to create a site problem than an adsense placement problem.

      So can you help or did you just stop by to criticize?
