When looking at keywords for google adsense using googles keyword tool looking at the CPC colum is that the exact amount what you will get when someone clicks on your ad or is that an estimate? How does google calculate how much you will get when someone clicks on your adsense ads?

No, that CPC would be the cost to an advertiser and includes google search cost. You can expect about 20-40% of that number on average.

Partly because google keeps 38% of the cost for their revenue and because theirs less CPC competition for websites vs google search.

Natlex summed it up pretty well. That would be the average price that the user would pay via AdWords to list it on search.

What you would get is substantially lower. Not only do ads on search generally cost more than on page ads (the ads on your website) but Google also keeps a percentage for themselves; that's how they make money.

    • You can't "expect anything" and it changes from day to day to day.

One day a high comp site will average $2.50-$3.00 a click and the next day be half that.

On low comp keywords it's lower. For general product pages we're seeing about .35-.45 cents a click on the good days, and then dropping as low as .18-.21 cents a click the next day if the account goes smart pricing on you.

Of course, when you are getting between 500-600 clicks a day....Bob's your Uncle.
