Hey all,

My rankings are changing quickly and I'm wondering if you could help advise me.

Originally I was ranked #2 for my keyword,

Then the website got dropped down to #5 along with another website which I'm hosting on the same server. Both got punished at the same time.

This website goes up to #1 place when I add new content, but that only lasts for about 12 hours and then it gets moved back down again.

Any ideas? The content I'm using is from a private forum so it is not being listed in google so I guess this makes it unique?

Regards,

Tony

    Hi Tony,

Those fluctuations are pretty usual for sites that are relatively new. I would keep adding content and building backlinks and, eventually, your site will stabilize its rank.

Ya totally agree. Another ranking factor is the amount of content you have. The more pages you have the better the ranking you will get.

A rank change doesn't necessarily mean you were" punished" (or penalized, as it is often termed). It could be a result of competition or other factors.

I've had Google give me some strange ranking jumps as well. A keyword will be doing well for a while, then suddenly drop a few spots. The next day it's back, better than before.

Plus, a rank difference from #2 to #5 seems to happen regularly as a result of changing backlinks and backlink values, competitive SEO efforts, changes in the algorithm, etc.

Yeah I have found that can sometimes be someone else competing for the same terms. I have competed on terms that would make the rankings change several times per day.

This just means you gotta keep hammering away at it.

Maybe it could be a Google dance...is it your website new or are you doing hugely SEO for it in last weeks?

yes but both websites dropped on the same day, from #2 to about #9

I dont think that is competition and for the market that they are in it would also be very unlikely.

As soon as I add new content it jumps to #1 then after about 10 hours down to #2 and then 10 more hours down to #5

what do we recon? when google is compiling is it finding a dodgy link and then punishing me and moving it down. is there a way to trouble shoot this?

I just published new content and immdeitaly it jumped back up to #2 position. In a few hours it will be back down to #5 again. This isn't normal is it?

If it's a new site then don't worry about it, most likely it's just a google dance
Just keep building backlinks to it and you should be up again in no time
