Do Wordpress Blogs Rank Well?

I have had a much easier time with Joomla sites then I have with blogging on a Wordpress site. Have you seen WP blogs rank on the 1st page for competitive keywords?

      Hello,

      Yes - Wordpress.org blogs are liked by the search engines because blogs are usually updated with new content on a regular basis (unlike a static web site).

      Also, you have complete control over design, plugins, advertising, email capture and lots of other stuff.

      Yes, I have seen WP blogs rank well for competitive keywords.

      I don't think the CMS matters. I have been moving away from WP without any ill effects. As far as rankings are concerned, it hasn't made a difference one way or the other.

        Google loves Wordpress.

        That's for sure.

        Then again, I've never used Joomla, so I can't quite compare.

        However, Wordpress.com (NOT Self-Hosted) is ranked #19 by Alexa.com.

        Wordpress.org (Self-Hosted) is ranked #59 by Alexa.com.

        Joomla.com is ranked #278,420 by Alexa.com.

        Given the popularity of Wordpress, it stands to reason there's better support and more developers building plugins and extensions (that honesty I can't live without).

        But ultimately, it's up to you which CMS you decide to use

    The CMS is of no issue in SEO.

    The CMS only affects how a site is built. The search engines only care about what is shown to the public in the HTML.

    Regardless of the CMS, the final output seen by the public is always in HTML, so all sites are equal.

    What makes the difference in SEO is the content on the page and the links pointing to the page. Everything else is meaningless.

    I have sites now that rank well, using custom html, custom PHP CMS management, WordPress, etc.

    I don't rank better with one over the other based on the CMS, but due to the content on page and links pointing to the pages.

      No one actually told me this. I have had personal success with Joomla sites. I have recently branched off into WP (self-hosted) sites and it is taking longer than usual for me. I just wanted to see what others thought, thanks.

      agreed. as long as you configure it correctly, offer good content and implement a good and consitent SEO campaign then you will rank, you're not penalized for using a particular CMS.

      I know that was tongue-in-cheek but Joomla is actually a decent platform and I've also had first hand experience of surprisingly good results just from using it.

      With that said - I completely agree that the CMS in use has zero affect on potential rankings and you can manually do anything a CMS would do for you, so technically the platform is irrelevant and it's what you do with it that matters in the same way as you can manually create your pages with a text editor but do it well or badly and have different results.

      But I have found that when building sites with Drupal and Joomla they get indexed and ranked REALLY quick sometimes - before I've even finished building them sometimes.

      All that says is that they have a decent core structure not that they're better than WP or anything else.

      When it comes to ranking - ALL site construction techniques can rank well.

      I have static sites with top rankings, WP blogs, Joomla, Drupal, other CMS based sites - it's the marketing that ranks the site, not what platform you built it with.

    Wordpress has slight edge over joomla interms of seo plugins it has.
    Surely it helps to rank higher.Me too have wordpress blogs ranking first page for many keywords.joomla tough to configure than wordpress.

    It is the not the tool that helps in higher ranking, what really matters is the qualitative ranking, if you have quality stuff, you rock, else, hard luck.

    I used to build sites only in DreamWeaver, now only in Wordpress (self-hosted) and have achieved very high rankings (top 5).

    The platform doesn't matter, what matters in regards to ranking is what you do with the page your trying to rank (backlinks, etc...).

    Example, do a Google search for the word something.

    1) http://www.something.com/

    2) The entire source code for the page that ranks #1 in Google SERPs, for that keyword.

    My point is, (and I realize that's a weak keyword) that a web page is still a web page regardless what the platform is.

      Who are these "they" you speak of? The most popular and easiest for beginners? Yes. The best? Not even close.

      I'll take cmsms anyday.. as it will do anything WP will.. and it allows a programmer to code php plugins right inside the admin. Drupal rocks too. Some would likely cast a vote for joomla.
