Blog or No Blog - That is the Question...

I'm thinking about putting a blog on my static website. I would like to link Blogger or Wordpress onto it - but I'm thinking about all those optimized pages I'll be losing if I put it on a blog.

My question is - should I blog on my static website, creating more and more pages...kinda grow it into a mega site. Or should I link a regular blog to it. I really want to grow my website and by putting static pages that looks like a blog is one idea to increase the number of pages. What would you guys do?

I would rather add a blog than link to an external source, "build that super site and they will come"

Personally, I would create the blog on my own site, instead of linking out to Blogger/WP, for three main reasons:

    1. Every time you update the content on your blog, you'll get credit for updating the content on your site. Remember, the search engines like sites that are updated on a regular basis. In fact, whenever I add new content to my own site, I notice that my rankings improve a bit.

    2. By having a blog right on your site (and linking to relevant posts on other pages), you can create alot of internal links that are good for SEO purposes.

    3. If you send people to a separate blog website, you run the risk of them not coming back to your money site. Personally, I'd rather keep people on my main site (where they can buy, sign up for my list, etc.) than sending them to a separate blog site. Add in an extra step (like having to come back to your main site to buy), and you'll undoubtedly lose people in the process.

i absolutely agree on this point. if you can post new post daily then google gonna love your site. everyday new update can increase your site's position in search result.

    I prefer wordpress.

Easy to manage, update, and control.

Another key benefit to wordpress is it's ability to be optimized for SEO.

I would also put a wordpress blog (self-hosted) on your existing site. In fact, I recommended this to a client last week, who was contemplating using an external website to host content.

Wordpress is easy to use and can be tweaked to be be search-engine friendly. Nicole has already mentioned the other big benefit of a blog which is to improve the internal linking to your existing pages. This is a technique that I regularly use and it works well.
