Optimizing Less Important Keywords

I'm only trying to rank for 1-3 keywords. But I wonder how helpful to my ranking for these 3 keywords, it would be to build backlinks for similar keywords, even if I won't ever get on page 1 for these other keywords.

Does it help your overall rankings, if you were ranked for 100 different keywords? You may be on page 10 or 20 for all of them, but think how many times google is counting your domain.

yes, it is very helpful. I have often found long tail keywords lifted my short tail keywords and deviations of the keywords worked wonders! I was actually surprised at how well it worked. good luck.

Anytime you work with the longer tail terms that have your main keywords in them it will help you out in the long run. Not to mention you may get a little traffic from those as well. When you work on those other keywrods, make sure that your main ones are part of it as well. The other thing that you have to remember is that when you write on your site, it will not only pull your main keyword, but also that long tail.
