Amazon or Adsense Sites?

To be honest I am new to both of these type of sites and would just like to hear some comments about the profitability of either.

My initial gut feeling is that an Amazon site could possibly be more profitable than an Adsense site? Is this the case...?

Is anyone earning a decent income from Adsense sites still or would you say there are better ways to invest your time/money to earn an online income?

I am really interested to hear your views and would appreciate as many comments as possible.

Thanks in advance!

Depends what the site is about. If it is an information site then I'd say use Adsense but if it's a product based site then I'd say Amazon.

I'd say adsense is more profitable and easier in most cases. However it depends on many factors. If you are only getting 10cent clicks from adsense then amazon may be better but if you are getting 50cent+ you may find adsense more profitable. It also depends on the price point your amazon products are of course.

when you create your sites be sure you make them so you can easily change from adsense to amazon and vice versa if you are forced to one day.

Hi Moneyland, the truth is, you can make money from both. As you know, the proper research on the front end determines what keywords you build your site around. What I would propose is for you to conduct your own test. Do your research and find a product related site to build and do the same for AdSense and see which one you like the best and why. Who knows, maybe one will outperform the other and maybe both will be successful.

As an internet marketer, you have to be prepared to test many different ideas and programs to find the right combination that puts money in your account on a daily basis.

It's not an either-or thing, both can be good earners, in fact people are making a living from both. Totally depends on the niche/keywords. Amazon is all about physical products, Adsense has a much wider range of products and services - a MASSIVE, untapped range, actually. You just need to do your research beforehand and see which is the best match for your niche.

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise

Thanks everyone for your comments all of which very positive. My understanding was that many people are making a living from doing both.

I was thinking that Adsense may be slightly more stable long-term as they are Google's Ads and Google not likely to change anything and will continue to display Ad's a long time to come on as many sites as possible.

On the other side ofthe coin, I know that Amazon sites can work well but then I hear things like....

"sites with affiliate links as their mainstream are getting hit everywhere from Google and think twice before posting any direct affiliate links"
Is anyone with an Amazon site being hit??
Maybe doing both is a good idea and taking advise as above in being able to change the sites from one to the other is smart.

    do both

This is what I do and do fairly well, going to break $5000 again this month from adsense and another $1000 + Amazon month.

I would suggest making sites about products, adding some adsense, and also adding links to amazon. Test what pays better and make one or the other more prominent on the site.

It depends on the intention of your visitors. I like Adsense because your visitors don't necessarily have to be in "buying mode" for you to profit; whereas with Amazon, you'll only profit if they make a purchase. It is very niche/keyword dependent.

I think it's okay to put Amazon on a site where you think Adsense will bring in most of your profit, but don't put Adsense on a site where you think Amazon will bring in most of your profit. You don't want people clicking off to an Adsense site when you want to direct them to buying on Amazon.

While I'm open to trying other things, I prefer Adsense. Some people have a knack for "selling"; I have a knack for creating useful content which doesn't need reviews, product images or traffic in "buying" mode (though niches which attract people seeking certain products and services related to what they are seeking information about is helpful), and this is why Adsense is my preferred choice out of the two.

I like building sites around real, tangible products.

If you sell an item at Amazon worth $150, you make around $10 commission.

There are lots of folks who would love to create an adsense site that makes $10 a day. (But that's easier said than done).

There are always ways to monetize site(s) which focus on physical products -- Amazon is just one of those ways.
