Killing it on Google.ca, nowhere at all on Google.com. WT???

I have a client that is #1 for "bedding" on Google when we search here from Canada, but when using this tool to see where they sit in Google.com they don't even come up for their brand name, "beddingtons" on Google.com, let alone for the desired "bedding" keyword:

Rank Checker

Clearly the site is not being penalized, it ranks very well on Google.ca. But for the past 3 weeks it has fallen completely off the radar on Google.com.

Has anyone ever seen this before or have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Thanks,

Shawn

Hey they take up a four top spots for their brand name in the US.

That keyword is crazy competitive with most of your competitors having hundreds of thousands of links. You still have a long way to go to be ranked for US search.

Also a lot of your more powerful backlinks from different IP's are all .ca domain names. Makes it look like to me you are just trying to rank in Canada alone in the first place.

Thanks Derek, but did you use that tool I linked to? They don't rank at all for "bedding".

They were #15 about a month ago, right in the middle of page 2. It's tough, yes, but doable.

#15 for "bedding" in the American rankings? If so did you just build a bunch of links to it causing the site to do a google dance?

See a lot of your SEO targeting Canada and cities within Canada like Toronto. Could make google think the site is no longer relevant to Americans. Build some powerful links from American sites, get a few American .gov links and maybe even add their American and Canadian addresses to the bottom of the page.

The site have any American Google Places listings yet, this could also help.

Thanks again for your input Derek. Yes, it was #15 for "bedding" in the US results, and yes, we did just acquire many new links over the past month which could have caused this. Do we just have to wait it out? It's not "banned", it's just disappeared from the US results.

And they don't have any US addresses for Google Places, but perhaps I could get them to put something on the homepage that reinforces the fact that they ship to the US.

You said link to American sites...you mean outbound links, right? Hadn't thought of that.

Location is everything. You are in Canada.
Why would you think that does not make a difference?

Do you think you are the the only company outside the US that
ships to the US? Why would that make a difference?

Looks like everything goes back to Ottawa, Canada.

Why do you think google operates a google.countrycode
in virtually every country in the world? And what do you
think those country's default google page goes to?

You're are a Canadian company. Based in Canada. With store
      locations only in Canada.

As if there are no stores that sell bedding in the US.

I would be mad if I knew someone I hired to do SEO had to
come to the WF. Seems like I've been asking that a lot lately.

        I never said it didn't.

One of the few bedding companies, yes. And since it is relevant to US customers it should rank for US searches.

Not sure how this is helpful. Your post is basically saying, "forget it, it can't be done" but I know for a fact that it is doable. Was looking for some feedback is all.

Now that's just rude. I was hired by them to do a lot more than SEO. I don't claim to be an SEO, but I do have quite a bit of experience in that area so am assisting them with that as well. There are so many nuances to the ever-changing SEO landscape I thought I could get some advice from fellow Warriors. Derek was kind enough to provide that. You, on the other hand, seem like you have a pickle up your ass for some reason. I can't actually find one positive statement in your entire post.

Yeah if you just built a bunch of links, your clients site is just dancing around the serps. If you built links that stick, then within a few weeks your clients site should be back and possibly even stronger than before.

Sorry the "to" was a typo that I went back and corrected a few min ago. Get links FROM American sites lol.

I haven't tested outbound linking enough to recommend doing it. I rank high enough in my niches not to really worry about linking out.

I've done outbound linking and it has helped before, it's something easily done anyway. And I'll work on getting a US address to put on the homepage, as well as adding more links.

Thanks again for the feedback Derek, much appreciated.
