I'm using free proxies ATM. I get about 10-15% success rate with them, it works out fine for me.

You should ALWAYS use a proxy to protect yourself when using those type of programs. Check out anonymizer, it's not free but it works really well. There are also firefox plugins that allow you to change your proxy from free proxy sites.

Yes, whether you're harvesting, commenting, or checking PR you should use them. Proxies keep your IP safe and prevent IP blocks from the search engines, and your ISP getting spam notifications from massive SB commenting.

Public Proxies are fine to use for checking links, PR, etc. and public proxies will work when you scrape keywords and small amounts of harvesting. However for larger amounts of harvesting it's better to use private proxies.

Always use private proxies for commenting for several reasons; they are quicker and safer to you're not blocked as spam. From my understanding many public proxies still allow your IP to be found.

You can use scrapebox a great deal each month with just 10 private proxies. I think I pay around 20.00/month for fast private proxies, and get new ones each month.

    Hope that helps ya

If I am manually commenting maybe only 5-10 sites a day, should I still use a proxy for protection? This seems like a good idea.

        Hi friendclk,
As you said it's probably a good idea and wouldn't hurt anything however if that's all you're doing and your comments are not spammer type comments, I personally don't think it would be required.
Definitely don't use a public proxy over your own because most public proxies are spammed to death and that could do more damage! I think I would wait until you had another need to use private proxies like; using scrapebox or other IM tools.
One method that works well to keep your personal IP private and be able to have unique "tracks" as you blog comment and set up accounts on sites is a VPN. It's also less expensive than proxies.
Search for "hidemyass" and look into their VPN service. It works really well.

        Hi timpears,

Yep they do for me currently. I don't burn though the proxies too quickly yet, and I do use shared/public for scraping or pinging. But I have an awesome autoapprove list and just a few sites to maintain currently, not several +.

Just curious how many are you using before you see the proxies listed as spam, or your comment success ratio drop? How many sites are you maintaining with them / or services with the proxies? Could help me gauge when I need to use more

thanks guys, just have few more queries:

"prevent IP blocks from the search engines" - What do you mean by that? What will happen if my IP is blocked by search engines? will it affect my website?

If I'm using the 12K autoapprove blogs list, there are thousands of comments in each of those blog, obviously they are all spam. Are the website owner going to waste time to analyse which ones are spam which ones aren't?

Also, there are 12K autoapprove blogs, even I'm blocked by some, I will still have a long long list to continue my auto commenting?

I'm currently getting free proxies from the following websites, are they good enough?

      Hey adrian8311,
When the SE blocks your IP for overuse it will not affect your website. This happens when they see so many searches coming from your IP address, and they will ban you temporally from searches. This will also affect SB (or any program that's using the SE to operate), by slowing it down or stop working at all.
As far as AA SB lists I don't think you need to worry about the blog owners of those websites, because most AA lists are built from sites that are not maintained. But SPAM lists like Akismet and issues with your ISP company if they received complaints that SPAM is being sent from their IP. In my opinion it's wise to be as safe as possible if you're doing these methods.
I haven't checked out those proxies, but if they pass a proxy test in SB, are fast and safe.... and you're getting your comments to stick I don't see why not. There's tons of great info. around on proxies and using SB with them when you search.
      gl with your sites

Free proxies get burned easily. I rather get the paid ones. And its cheap.
