Godaddy & SERPs?

I have a few websites and I almost always use Namecheap, but i have a couple on godaddy. Two unrelated sites in particular I was having a hard time ranking. They were stuck on page 2 & 3 for months even though I've been a throwing a ton of quality links at them. They are moderate-high competition.

yesterday I moved them from godaddy to namecheap and all of a sudden they're ranked #2 and #4 for their main keywords. I did no new backlinking to them over the last 2 weeks.

Coincidence? Both sites?

    Interesting theory.

    I don't see why that would matter unless Google is somehow watching GoDaddy sites.

    Would love to hear some more detailed experiences about this because I got all my stuff on GoDaddy...

      I forgot to mention that I was using Godaddy's nameservers. On namecheap I used my own. I don't know how that could have made a difference.

    i think this is more of a coincidence. if it happens again, itd be really interesting and worth invstigating. as of now, it could have just been good timing

      hosting providers and or domain registrars should have nothing to do with SEO. Weird.

      I have domains registered on GoDaddy and Namecheap and hosted on numerous hosting companies and have never seen any anything like you describe.

    Hmm ... interesting ... but probably just random coincidence. I have bought domains using both providers and have had no problems ranking them. IMO - what domain provider / host you use makes almost no difference. The only exception is if you use shared hosting, which can slow your site down. Google don't like slow sites.

      I think he is 100 % correct...I have 5 sites that will not move past the top of page 2 no matter what I try...been over 4 months now..I think I'm going to give name cheap a try.

    Apparently there was some shuffling of the serps a couple days ago, but none of my many sites have much movement from their current positions. So I think i can rule that out. All my sites get slow, steady and quality backlinks so they don't dance much except when moving up.

    I forgot to mention that during the moves from Godaddy, two things happen:

    -the domains go from public to private registration (i read this is bad for seo)
    -the domains got an extra year (i read this is good for seo)

    So was the extended reg. enough to push these to Top 5 rankings?

      Server locations can effect positioning I read in a google report a couple of months back, but not to the extent you've experienced..weird :S
