Is there a way to discover that I am ranking for keywords that I didn't know I was ranking for, even if I'm not receiving any traffic for them?

    Not that i'm aware of. Only way I discover I'm ranking for key words I wasn't aware of is through analytics.

    Why would it matter though, just out of curiosity?

    The best way is to check yourself by entering all your targeted keywords in google one by one.I mean all the words that you have in your title tag.If you are looking for a short cut then you may not get the full result.

    Use Google Analytics you can know from which keywords you got traffic. Basically those keywords can bring traffic to your websites often got ranked.
