What am I doing wrong here?

Hi,

I started a new site about a month to six weeks ago that I want to grow into an authority....I have added just over 100-pages of content to the site.

My problem is that none of the pages are ranking for their keywords....Many of the pages are written around KW's with ridiculously low competition.....

I should mention that I have done NO link building at all and that the on-site is as perfect as can be....

So, I have a site with 100+ pages and no rankings anywhere...It has been my experience that even with no links many of these sub-pages will rank naturally because of the low competition.....

Any thoughts? What can I do to pull the rankings up? I feel like this site is very fragile and I don't want to do anything too drastic....

Thanx!
William

It seems like a 'welcome to the real world' is in order. Google isn't that excited about fresh content these days, unless it's truly something earth-shattering. Does your content smash the planet like that?

    Ah there is your problem.

Everytime you submit an article to your blog.

    Ping it using Ping-o-Matic!

Then social bookmark it, at Ping.fm / Update all of your social networks at once!

You must submit your sites to www.ezinearticles.com once they are indexed in Google. Leave them exactly the same. In your recourse box, make sure you have 2 links. One to your homepage and one to the actual link where the article is.

Also submit them to Free Articles Directory | Submit Articles - ArticlesBase.com this site tends to get your sites lots of backlinks and placed on other peoples sites....

That's a good start and will see your rankings and traffic and money increase.

Then you can work on getting more backlinks by submitting to other article directories and getting other types of links.

Most sites wont all of a sudden blossom and get tonnes of traffic with no seo work.

Is this safe? If i submit the articles from my sites to ezine, it means duplicate content right?

No! This is a myth or a constant misunderstanding. You are allowed to submit the same article to a million sites if you want, its called article syndication.

It will not harm your site, it will infact help it my submitting to EZA, even the exact same article.

You'll get traffic and a backlinks.

Duplicate content is when you have the same article posted on your own site more than once.

Thank you! People get so worried about penalties when they hardly even occur.

Content is shared on the internet and it is called syndication not duplication.

Nice tips. Although EZA and Articlesbase got slapped on Panda updating, they are still worthy to be recommended.

    Hey,

    Thanks for the responses guys....

Regarding my content, I would not call it "Earth shattering." However, it is average to above average for sure. Each post is 500+ words with the proper use of italics, bold, interlinking, etc....

Also, thanks for the advice on what I should be doing, Ernie. I appreciate it....I know my site will not magically start generating $$$ with no SEO, however, I just find it weird that the sub-pages show up absolutely nowhere for their low comp keywords...Anyway, I will keep plugging away at it...

    Thanks!

To elaborate on what Ernie said, you really want to milk your content for all that it's worth.

Get it out to a bunch of the top directories where it will get syndicated from:
    • Ezine
    • a1articles
    • article blast
    • article snatch
    • isnare
    (to name a few)

Convert it to a pdf and submit it to document distributors:
    • docstoc
    • slideshare
    • scribd
    • docshare
These all give no follow links, BUT they will get you traffic AND these pdf docs rank themselves for very low comp keywords.

Convert your articles into audio for free: Spesoft Free Text to MP3 Speaker - Download Latest Version. Make a free blog with podbean.com - now you have an audio RSS feed to submit to all the podcast directories.

Getting it on some popular directories is definitely the most important step, but you can always do more

    Hey BenJackson,

    Thanks for the reply.....

Is there a concern with duplicate content?

In other words, I always worry about submitting the content on my site to these directories...Even if they are already indexed on my site.

    Am I way off here?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

      No problem

This actually does not qualify as duplicate content. DC is only supposed to refer to the same content on the same website more than once. It's so you can't make a website with 100 pages with the same article 100 times and rank highly for your keyword.

Your content would not be duplicated, rather it is syndicated - natural distribution of content on the internet (people love sharing ). I wrote a more extensive post on DC on my site you can check out here as well: Duplicate Content | SEO Discovery.

Here is the only concern when syndicating content already on your site:

Google finds this article a bunch of different places, now they have to decide how to rank these pages that all have the same content. You won't find a results page with the same content from 1-10 because they use a supplementary index where they place some of these results when this happens. You want to be the highest ranking result for your article and stay out of the supplementary index. The problem is that sites like Ezine bear more authority and might often rank higher and take the traffic you're trying to get. However, you have the opportunity to appear as the original source of the content - this is why you always want to get your content indexed on your site first. It enhances your chances of ranking higher with your own content

    BenJackson,

Thanks for sharing that with me and clearing up what duplicate content is/was (in my mind at least).

What about using AMR or UAW to mass submit the article?

    Thoughts?

    Thanx again!

AMR & UAW are great, I use them both in my article submission service

Article Marketing is two-fold - the first part is distribution, and the second is syndication. AMR and UAW can be used to give your article massive distribution. Traditionally, the only point of distributing your article is to get it syndicated - that's when you actually get the traffic and backlinks. However, AMR & UAW are effective enough at what they do, that you will rank higher using these alone, before any real syndication takes place.

The majority of webmasters go to Ezine and other top directories alone to find content which is why you want to make sure you submit there as well. It's a great opportunity to get "do-follow", anchor text, traffic-getting, contextual, and possibly high PR backlinks.

I don't think only on page optimization will help you in search engine ranking. you need to build do follow backlinks. if you want ranking in yahoo or bing do any kind of link building like do follow or no follow,
let me know if you have any query.

Yeah distributing your articles across article directories won't flag any of them as duplicates but as syndicated content, the version showing up in the search results may or may not be the one on your site, I guess what will help determine that is whether it was first indexed on your site and/or which version has the highest PR, can anyone enlighten this issue?
