advice for a wordpress website

Hi,

I need some SEO advice for my website. What's the best method to make posts to influence search engines? Here are some examples, assuming I'm building a product reviews site. And I'm referring to this website: bestpricedata.com
  1. is it better to add the first few posts without any affiliate links?
  2. does it matter if I promote a few different products in the same website? For example, each post is a review and targets it's own product and it's own keywords
  3. does it matter if after a while I stop posting new content ?
  4. when I create backlinks to such a website, should I create backlinks to the homepage or to individual posts?
  5. should I display the full posts on the first page or break them up with the "More..." tag?
  6. should I add noindex and/or nofollow attributes to archive, tag, or category links?
  7. what's the best title for the whole website? Right now it's "Best price info product reviews". That's not a keyword that I'm targeting, it's just a generic title that I've thought of. Should I change it to a specific product (even if the website contains multiple product reviews) or should I leave it generic?

    Some answers:

    1. Yes - build up some content and traffic before monetising.

    2. You're better off keeping a site focused, but if the products are closely related it may be OK.

    3. Yes.

    4. Individual posts - as long as they're relevant.

    5. From an SEO perspective it doesn't matter.

    6. If you're using categories and tags properly I'd index those, but noindex all other archives.

    7. A keyword oriented title would be better but, most importantly, make sure the title makes it clear to humans what the site is about.

    1. It doesn't matter, as long as the keywords are good and the content is relevant and well written.
    2. It does not matter, but the niche should stay the same so there is relevancy.
    3. Keep posting content; however, your posts will stay ranked for a while especially if your competition is weak.
    4. Both. Create long-tail keyword backlinks that are specific to the posts and generalizations that apply to your site to the homepage. Tags are much more important for the posts than you think. Choose them very wisely. More often than not, google will link to your post rather than your website.
    5. No full posts on the first page! But try to customize the More... into something better that grabs the reader's attention.
    6. Don't bother with the noindex and/or nofollow attributes unless you have something to hide on your website (in which case you would use noindex).
    7. That's a crap keyword. Do better keyword research to find a good keyword. My suggestion for a beginner like you is to open google keyword tool on one tab and a thesaurus.com's synonyms on the other. Since this is your first site try to find something broad that has around 5,000-20,000 searches a month. Have at least 10 + their variants. Then open google up and look at the competition and their websites (onsite/ofsite SEO, content, etc.)....Here's a good post about KW research! scroll down a bit.

    Yes, this will be better for the search engines. It is always a good idea to build up the popularity of a website before monetizing it. Doing it the other way around can raise some red flags from the search engines if they suspect your site is a thin affiliate site.

    That is fine. Try to keep the products similar and tied into the overall topic of your site in some way. Also it is often a good idea to create some posts that are not just review pages with affiliate links. Same scenario as above, you want to create some credibility without the bots thinking you are a thin affiliate site.

    3. does it matter if after a while I stop posting new content ?

    That is fine. Depending on the niche though. For example, if you are in the fashion niche your competition will always be updating their site, if your site isn't updating as often you might slip down the SERPs. However, if you are in the golf niche, your competition would not be updating too often so you will stay high in the rankings without updating your site.

    Create backlinks to the individual posts that you are trying to rank, remember to use your keywords as anchor text.     But vary the keyword a little bit. I normally use my main keyword 80% of the time exactly as it is and then choose similar keywords the other 20% of the time. This keeps your backlinking portfolio more natural.

    5. should I display the full posts on the first page or break them up with the "More..." tag?

    That's a good question. One which doesn't have a specific answer... Either one is fine. However, sometimes the best option is a static homepage. This allows you to control your onpage optimization for whatever keywords your homepage is targeting. This can still be done with a blog-style homepage, but not as well.

    If you are just trying to rank inner pages there is no problem with either method though.

    6. should I add noindex and/or nofollow attributes to archive, tag, or category links?

    Yes, it is always a good idea to retain as much link juice on your pages as possible. This is more important for outbound links but adding the tags to unnecessary site links is often a good idea too.

Should I change it to a specific product (even if the website contains multiple product reviews) or should I leave it generic?

    Leave it as a generic name, otherwise, if you are attracting traffic to your homepage, try to use your main keyword.

    The title you have sounds pretty good, especially if your review pages will be targeting something like "teddy bear product reviews" because your site title is already focusing on "product reviews", so this adds a little more stability to your SEO campaign.
