Reg an expired domain with backlinks.

I reg an expired domain name that have web archive.
As you know new reg PR is zero. But have 2 real direct backlink from related site: PR1 and PR3
It might be ridiculous because with only 2 backlinks I'm not sure to benefit from it for ranking but these are really specific to my domain name.
My goal is not ranking but I reg it because I can get some few traffic and the real purpose will be for my main website that is another site ranked on page 2 with related keywords.
With the newly reg domain I plan to 301 redirect to my main site or develop site and add a backlink to my main site witch will probably gain in serious backlink like a pyramid style (2 inbound link to new domain and new domain to main site).
What do you think will a 301 redirect be better for my main site or the 2nd option, develop newly reg domain and point link to main site?
Also will I have to change hosting for different DNS and IP adress on the newly reg domain?
I thought that if I 301 to my main site, I could lose in ranking since the new domain have PR0 and is consider as new but not sure because if that was right, people can reg tens of new domains and do 301 to their competitor sites to decrease their ranking.
