I used to leave comments on many blogs to try to get some traffic back to my blogs. I would leave comments on blogs related to my niche. I kind of got lazy doing that but was curious if this is a good method of receiving traffic?

I also choose the related blogs to leave comment, but I do not expect traffic from blog commenting. But then, I expect quality backlinks.

However, I make sure that I also post useful comments. It's also good to build a good reputation to the blogs I leave the comments.

I use Google Alerts for this purpose. Every morning I get my keywords emailed to me with the blogs that have used them for the day. That way I can spend a few minutes every morning posting comments if I find something relevant to say. However, spending more time for me has not been as productive as other methods. This way, I can manage my time effectively and still keep on top of things in my niche.

Leaving comments on blogs can be good, as long as it's not spammy sounding. you'll get deleted so fast your head will spin!

Yahoo Answers is also a great place to use this method. You can get way better results over there rather than just some random blog (Plus high page ranking).

Just be sure not to sound spammy!

Blog comenting can be effective but must be relevant and of course add real value. The owner of the blog will appreciate it and in turn this will enhance your own reputation. Make sure you make good use of anchor text in your comments to get maximum backlink value.

That's good, and it will pay off for you.

I wouldn't worry about whether a blog is dofollow or nofollow,
even the nofollow sometimes get picked up for links.

Also, if it is good blog and you have posted relevant comments,
you will be surprised at how much traffic you actually will get
      over the course of time.

This is my primary source of traffic gaining. In fact, my blog is just over two weeks old and my traffic has doubled each week. I have met a lot of people and have started writing guest posts on other sites and being paid by another. I have had good luck with posting a thoughtful response and then saying something like "I recently wrote an article with tips for adding to your savings account if your readers are interested."

For those of you who regularly comment on blogs, how do you usually sign your nickname, which then links to your website? Do you put your name only, or do you also include your company name?

Yeah, I haven't found any guide or how-to written on this topic. I think that this is one area where you need to experiment for yourself first to find what works in your case.

Well I'll tell you that opinions on this subject differ greatly in the blogosphere. Personally I am still on the fence a little but but I'll say this if you do use anchor text as you name make sure that you have a well though out comments that adds value and not something short like. "Nice post, I totally agree with you." then you will certainly be flagged as spam. Another good idea is to still add your name in the bottom after you comment.

          i.e. My Keyword Anchor Text
My thoughtful and creative comment ... ect

          -Gerald Weber

If you follow this guidline most blog owner will allow your comment to stand with the anchor text.

The key is making sure the comment ads value to the post at hand.

I posted a tool I created about a month ago but no one seemed interested on the Warrior board. It seems like people on this thread are interested on a good dofollow search tool. So I don't highjack the thread I'll just post the link here. Check it out if your interested. Clearly my original post fell on deaf ears.

Blog commenting can be good once you find the right blog to put comments. You should definitely see some traffic if you are adding value to the discussion and actually helping the readers.

Possibly, a better method (after you have commented on several posts) is to contact the blog owner and apply to be a guest blogger. The owner gets another writer with a different perspective, which is good for them and the readers. Sort of like an interview on a talk show or something.

But, you get to leave a link to your site within the post or at least reference your site at the end.

    hope it helps

unless you automate / semi-automate the process, you'll spend your life typing, for little reward.

The software to automate blog commenting ranges from the useless to the sublime, and you definitely get what you pay for.

This may sound easier on the short run but it is probably going to get you flagged as a spammer and then all of your comments will go to Akismet.

The easiest way is not always the best way. Beware of shortcuts. Things worth having in life require some work.

Well that answer can be yes and no. Commenting on do follow blogs will do nothing immediately to increase your traffic. In fact you are probably going to get less traffic from a do follow blog. The reason for this is high traffic blogs are by and large no follow.

However commenting on quality do follow blog can help your SEO efforts which can later lead to more organic traffic down the line but again it's only one component of SEO so by itself it guarantees nothing.

That being said if you want to use blog commenting as a way to increase traffic what you should do is subscribe to some high profile high traffic sites via email or RSS. Keep a close eye on them and when a new post comes out try to be one of the first to comment and leave a well thought out comment that adds value.

This way people will notice you and if your comment is good they will be curious about you and possibly visit your site. Once you have left your initial comment keep coming back and participating in the conversation.

Yeah I agree, I think commenting on blog related to your niche is one the best way to get traffic but patience is needed in this matter because sometimes it's take a long time before you get traffic from blog commenting..

Leaving comments is a great way to build traffic. Here is what I've found works (and I'm not commenting on the no follow issue -- others have covered that well).

      1) Write great comments

The typical advice is to leave intelligent and insightful comments that add value to the reader. This is solid advice, but just a beginning on blog commenting strategies.

      2) Leave controversial comments

Controversy gets noticed, and you can build interest and traffic by politely offering different points of view in comments. Don't be controversial just to stand out, but only where it's reasonable and adds value.

Opinions are valued in the blogosphere, and as long as you have a legitimate differing view and can back it up, don't shy away from controversy.

      3) Use a consistent commenter name

Always use a consistent name when you leave comments. For example if your name is Robert James Smith, don't sometimes use "Bob Smith," sometimes "Robert Smith," and sometimes "Robert James Smith." Pick one consistent representation of your name so that people will get to recognize you.

      4) Append your blogname or other tagline to your comment name

You can append your blogname or other tagline to your name when commenting. For example, if you're Bob Smith and your blog is called "Feline Health," using the name "Bob Smith, Feline Health" will get you lots of notice on cat blogs. Make sure, as mentioned above, you use a consistent name, whether you include a tagline or not.

      5) Comment early

Early comments attract more attention than late comments. It's better to have the first or second comment on a popular blog than the 5th or 25th. The later comments tend to get buried and not read as often.

      6) Comment often on the same blogs

Regular readers will be more likely to notice you if you regularly leave comments and will be more likely to visit your blog.

      7) Leave comments on related blogs

It doesn't matter how great your comments might be, if you are a cat blogger your comments will work better on other cat blogs than on political, ,marketing, or other unrelated blogs!

Leaving comments is a great way to build blog traffic.
