Hi all,
Please don't flame me for asking a dumb question, although I was always taught that there is no such thing.

I have a site that is a one page WordPress blog.

Do I need more pages? If so, what do I need? Do I need a privacy statement page? TOS? About?

If I want to promote an affiliate product, should that be on its own page or should I get a separate domain/site for that?

I have some one page WP blogs and they rank well too. You can find most of the WP sites don't have TOS, About, etc. So, it's not necessary. You need them if you are going to promote that site with Adwords.

Absolutely! Google and the rest of the search engines hate 1 page websites. Heck, why should they like them? Anyone can do a 1 page website.

You'll need to build more pages around the content of your website. Do keyword research and identify popular keywords around your niche/site and build out pages around those keywords. I'd recommend atleast 20 pages if you want to try and be successful with your site in the search engines.

You should also have the standard privacy policy, TOS, and contact page, since heck, they take no more than 10 minutes to put together and can't hurt you.

If you gain a new website, I would recommend that you had better provide readers with high-quality content! Google really care about that!

    I agree with the others.

Search engine marketing (ranking well in the search engines) is all about high quality original content. It must be well written, well researched, detailed, and well structured.

If you're using WordPress you can install an SEO plugin so you can get unique titles for each page or post, and you can use categories and tags to optimise your site further.

      Martin,
Thanks for the reply and the link to your site. The site looks awesome! One question (and if I can find the answer on the page of your site that addresses WordPress, just let me know); from what I have read on your site, ALL pages are WordPress pages, is that correct? Any helpful articles you can point me to regarding creating other types of WordPress pages?

      TIA,
      Steve

A one page site is too easy and won't rank too well but can be done. Just make a few more simple pages so that you don't have to worry about it. Better safe than sorry!

      Don,
Thanks for the tip, I probably should have said in my original post that I DO have the All In One SEO Pack. Perhaps I don't know what I'm doing with it? Anyone have suggestions of how to use it the best way?

No problem.. I am no expert by anymeans but it has worked for me like i said.. and also like someone else just said "Using the all in one Seo plugin will allow you to have the basics covered on the SEO front for each of your posts and pages. "

When your in "All in one Seo" Settings area, get all your relevant keywords in there, and also.. When you make a new post and you put your post tags, select all those post tags and hit copy before hitting 'Add'. Paste those same keywords at the bottom in the "all in one seo" pack section where it has 'Title, Description, and Keywords'.. that will just save you time from rewriting all those keywords in over again.. if needed that is..

You can tweak and enhance your on-page seo in under ten minutes. This also includes adding contact pages, privacy policy pages and about pages.

Also optimising your on-page content is very easy to do. It literally only takes a few extra minutes to do the tweaks when you are building a new post.

As for your actual content, you should be looking to always provide value. So don't add spun or poor content if you wish to build out a long term business. I look to add at least 500 words of unique content for each post I add.

Please, start by the basics. Add a contact page, about us page , privacy policy, and add a contact to your site.

    Just sayin'...

Then you need content to fit your needs: my credit cards website needs 2-3 new articles per day - it's high competitive market.

But I have other sites with low low low competition where I post once per month.

You should have a Privacy Policy, About Us, Contact Us, & Sitemap Page. I usually link to these in the footer. Besides those important pages, you don't really "need" more content unless you want to add it. High quality Backlinks, as well as good on page optimization, are what will determine your site's ranking.

When building new sites, it is also essential to make multiple pages. Keyword research is a good step in doing so in order to find the best topics which is related to your main topic.

If you are going to use adsense for your blog, you will definitely need a Privacy Policy. If you don't have one you can get banned from adsense. I don't know if you use adsense, but just in case.

If you use Adsense, you should read their TOS (check the links inside < this one). And yes, you need a Privacy Policy in your site, visible in every page.

Yea, it's pretty much what Fernando Veloso said. In the Adsense TOS, it is mentioned that every blog or website that displays adsense ads, must have a privacy policy. I just found out today actually. I was pretty freaked out myself. But I found this website that generates privacy policies in seconds. Here it is in case you need it:

To more authenticity to your site, add more pages even if you want to sell affiliate product from here.

Contact Us or About Us page is very important and if you are using cookies or any program using Cookies then declare such things in your privacy policy.

These kind of things will increase visitors confidence in your site.

    Thanks
