Backlinks to pages vs to domain ?

Hello
I have some questions concerning backlinks :
-If I want to rank for some specific keyword of my niche site, should i have my backlinks backlinking to the domain or to the pages where are my specific keywords?
-Is a backlink to my domain considered as a backlink to all my pages and vise versa?
-What's best? having X backlinks to each of Y number of keyword pages or haveing X * Y backlinks to the domain ( of course the domain and the pages have the same niche ) ?
-From your experience, is it better to go for ranking on the entire niche which has a good competition or going for certain keywords of the niche where the competition is medium and manageable with little to medium efforts?
-Is backlinking to a page affect the ranking of the domain? meaning : is ranking for a keyword of a niche affects the ranking of the entire niche?

You want to link to the page you're trying to rank.

Make sure your on page SEO is in tip top shape for the page you're trying to rank. Also, make sure you're home page is not optimized for that keyword if you don't want it to rank for it.

Your backlinks should point to the page that is most relevant to the keyword that is used as the anchor text for the backlink.

I think you are reading way too much into it.. Number 1, big G ranks pages and not necessarily domains. You simply need to optimize each page individually and treat each page like its own website. Example: if your domain was getridofacne.com and you had a post about "getting rid of blackheads" you would want to link to that page with relevant anchor text. You have to remember that most websites are linked to randomly when they are being linked to naturally. So, use the same method.. Be random.. Though, I do recommend linking to your home page for the majority of your backlinks as you do have to remember you home page will more than linkely link to many of your internal pages passing page rank as you desire..
