If you put 5 pages or 500 pages in front of someones face, which do you think has a better chance of an Adsense click (both sites optimized the same)?

Thank you, but after receiving your answer I realized that I had named the thread incorrectly... Sorry about that (I just changed it).

What I meant to ask was which is better, one authority site, or multiple minisites.

      Authority all the way.

Mini sites, although still effective at the moment, are in jeopardy IMO. I still have microsites doing OK but I won't be building anymore. Go for a larger authority site and backlink consistently and the possibilites are WAY more enticing as you can do so much more with them.

I think that large authority sites are better, because they will eventually generate the most clicks and impressions.

Authority sites would be better long term, just keep adding good content and do some consistant backlinking to gradually build your rankings

Well I had a few "authority sites" get hit hard from the panda update. One site had close to 200 pages of unique content. So I'd be careful too.

Yet the thin affiliate sites Ive made havent been affected really.

    What does that tell you?

I'm not sure, but in the last couple days I've registered 17 new domains.

What do you think I'm concentrating on now?

    Authority or mini sites?

(as they say if you can't beat them, join them)

Thank you for your answer... It's certainly different from most. To answer your question, I suppose that you will be building more mini sites?

      Ernie,

That's very interesting because I have seen the exact opposite happen with mine. My authority sites have actually seen a nice increase in traffic after the recent updates (by grabbing quite a few top rankings).

I think its entirely depend on your skills that which choice you can easily manage. If you want to put all your adsense business in one basket and confident about your skills then stick with one site. Choose a keywords having a lot of potential like too many long tails.

If you think you must have backup sites to face changes in Google Algorithm then crate more than one site.

    Thanks

I want to thank everyone for your answers. I am having success with what I think can be considered an authority site (around 2,000 pages so far, all unique content) by the way, this is a static site.

It has not been negatively affected by any of the Google updates over the years, so it has been a solid Adsense earner.

However, I am starting to experiment with blogs and this is why I asked the question to decide whether to build blogs for tight niches (small blogs) or for wide niches (authority blogs).

    Again, thank you all.

I can tell you without question that the "authority" type site is the way to go. Building small 1-5 page mini sites monitized with adsense is against Google's quality guidelines.

    Wanna know how I know?

Up until last December I had 130,1-5 page websites monitized with adsense. They consisted of an article, Youtube video and adsense per page. I was bringing in over $8,000 a month with them.

Then, in January Google deindexed ALL of those sites. What that means is that they have permanently lost all rankings and when you do the site:yoursite.com, nothing comes up anymore.

All 130 of these sites were on the same Adsense account and the same Webmaster tools account. So when I logged into Webmaster Tools there was a message on all my sites. It said that "this site may be in violation of googles quality guidelines".

So I went to Gogles forum and posted one of my sites there and they told me they were made for adsense sites. So when a human reviewer at Google found one of my sites they put my adsense publisher ID (found in the websites sourcecode), into their system and bang! - They found ALL of my sites and saw they were all "cookie-cutter" made for adsense sites and they deindexed all of them.

So I opened up a new adsense account and a business LLC since then and have been building 20-40 page sites. And I use a "quality" article writer. You know, one that charges $20-$30 per article. This is the only way to have quality content on your site! Don't use one of those crappy $5 per article guys. Poor website content also = deindexing nowadays.

So income is back up to $4000 a month and growing. And now I'm not afraid of Google ever deindexing my sites again. They have lots of pages with "quality" content.

Besides, if you build a 20 page site and rank all 20 pages on Googles first page you can easily make $20-$50 a day per site. If you build a 1 page site you will probably only make $1-$2 a day per site. So you get more bang for your buck with a bigger site anyway.

Were they original content? How many words were there on each page?

Hey what do you think about having one huge site with a generic domain name like mywordsite.com....example and just having many categories about different topics..from products ..eduction..cars..games and so on ?

It will be tough to rank a "generic" site. Google really likes themed websites. So what I do is optimise the home page for the broadest keyword in my niche. Then build 15-20 subpages around that niche.

        Example:

        Homepage - cars.com
Subpages - chevy, ford, bmw, ect.

Then, you'll find lots of other keywords relating to each subpage. And you can build more subpages on those keywords.

The whole goal is that within 3 months or so, is to have most of your pages ranking on page 1 of google. And you'll make more money with 1 website than you would with 20 mini 1 page websites combined. And you won't have a "thin" affiliate/ adsense site that google will deindex as soon as they come across it.

I am sorry if you feel that I have "hoodwinked" you or anyone else who have contributed to this thread that might feel the same way... That was not my intention.

It is true that when I started the thread I didn't have the graphic signature (I was working on creating it).

I hope that I have not broken any rules of this forum by changing my signature after starting the thread.

Actually I only have one "Adsense" product of my own... It's called "Adsense Is Back".

The other URL's in my signature are some of my sites which include an auto parts store.

Again, I really hope that I have not broken (or are braking any Warrior Forum's rules).

By the way, thank you for contributing to the thread

        It's all good.

Every now & then we see people start threads here then all of a sudden they have a WSO in their OP, not saying your doing that.

After seeing your Adsense banner/link I assumed you know your way around Adsense. Was a bit confused that you asked the question in the thread title.

Thank you for replying so promptly. Your previous post had me worried that I was doing something that was against the Warrior Forum's rules

My "Adsense Is Back" product has been selling for nearly a year now, so it's not new.

Of course you are right in thinking that I know quite a bit about "Adsense". However, most of my knowledge is about authority sites monetized with Adsense, not so much about minisites. This is one of the reasons why I asked the question in the thread title.

I wanted to know how other Adsense earners/experts feel about the two types of sites.

I don't build "authority sites", my main site I'm working on has 5 pages of unique content, I'm planning on making it bigger and bigger as time goes on by targeting more and more long tail keywords.

Is it possible that someone at Google Adsense looks at one of your sites when it's first built, sees it only has a few pages of content and bans your Adsense account?

I think one important aspect here is that if you do an authority site, then you do not have any exact match domain for the queries; but then with the mini-sites you do. So this is a trade-off, and both strategies can work.

It is true that most URL's for broad niches are already taken, but you can still find URL's for authority sites just by adding a prefix or suffix to your main keyword.

I read somewhere (I can't remember where) that Google discards certain words as well as numbers in a URL when ranking it. I still remember a couple of words ("the" was one of them and I am pretty sure that "review" was another).

Also, each page built for a static site or blog post will have the article's title as the URL, so isn't this like having multi minisites within an authority site?

Been down both roads and both have pros and cons.

    Minisites:

    PROS

    - Easy to find a low competition niche
    - Exact match domains often available
    - Little maintenance
    - Small but reliable contribution to adsense portfolio

    CONS

    - Some sites flop!
    - Adsense may determine that your sites are MFA and bizzle slap your account
    - Domain renewals
    - Attention spread thinly across too many sites

    Authority Sites:

    PROS

    - Expandable
    - Easy to integrate complementary offers from CB, etc.
    - Provide a lot of value (ideally)
    - Great flipping potential
    - Easy to focus on
    - Easier to build a substantial list and create/promote products

    CONS

    - More competition
    - If Adsense serves up irrelevant ads, there goes your adsense for that site
    - Takes more time to see results

Mini sites are great for quick cash. Basically you need to ask yourself, do you want to be making money in 1 week or 1 year?
