Pingbacks - are they good for me?

Hi all,

I started my affiliate wordpress blog a while back and now I'm receiving e-mails like "A new pingback to the post XXX is waiting for your approval". If I go to that site from my e-mail, I find a link to my blog - which is, essentially, a backlink and it is great, right?
Should I approve these pingbacks - is it good or bad for me? What are the incentives of those who send them? What happens if I do approve them and what happens if I don't?

Thanks in advance

      Yeah that's the question.
Usually 99% of the times pingback(s) come from bots, so you can disregard them... if they come from genuine blogs, feel free to approve!

Yes, it seems that sites are created by bots.I just don't understand why they do it? They add a link to my site and hope that I will approve and add the reciprocal link?

          ahh blogspam...

legitimate pingbacks are good, the spread the link juice around a bit.. they aren't anything TOO special but it is an easy way to get some links to your internal articles - although 2 way linking isn't all that awesome to begin with.. but it's ok

They're probably not linking to your site. They probably use scrapebox and use trackbacks instead of blog comments. It just makes it look like they linked to you...

Real ping-backs from high PR relevant blogs are good.
