I find it hard to believe that this hasn't been asked before but I couldn't find an answer using the search tool.

The question is simple: Is a CMS good for SEO, and if so which one is the best regarding SEO?

Thanks in advance,
Bart

    Definitely Wordpress.

I mean, the search engines don't physically see your CMS or what you are actively using to build/create your site. But Wordpress has got to be the best, simply because there are so many great SEO plugins and SEO-friendly themes that it just makes sense to use it.

Once you get the gist of it, you won't move on to anything else

I've used some of the other ones but Wordpress stands out. Plus you have such a large community of IMers who are constantly flooding it with Themes, Plugins, Auto Tools, etc. to speed up the SEO Process.

In terms of speed and automation it's hard to beat.

    -1 for Matt

    +1 for WP

SEO really has nothing to do with the CMS platform, it's what you do with the CMS that matters.

Example, I can show you a lot of WP sites on page 90+ in the SERPs that suck at seo. I can also show a lot of WP sites on page #1 in the SERPs that know what they are doing with on-page seo.

Some CMS's might appear to be better than others for SEO purposes because they might be easier to work with or offer lots of SEO addon options.

Wordpress works well for those ideas, but without enough knowledge and times you can probably use most any of them.

Wordpress - only because of how easy they make to to perform on-site SEO. There are also a ton of different types of plugins that allow for easy setup and automation of on-site SEO factors.

Other CMS exist that can be SE friendly but at the end of the day they require much more manual programming and hard work. Out of the box you can't beat Wordpress.

I agree with "dadamson". It's what you do with your content management system that makes the big difference. Wordpress provides you with the framework to implement great SEO for your website(s). However, if you don't take advantage of the framework then you not going to get any SEO advantage. This is true of any platform. Good SEO requires knowledge and work. It isn't automatic because you use a good CMS.
