Domain purchase strategy after identifying a niche

Hi Guys.

I`m learning Niche site building et al.

I`m making progress identifying niches, but once I`ve managed to find a niche the real show stopper for me is that my main keyword (or keyphrase?!!) has been registered (the .net .org. com already gone)

Usually by domain sellers or by other niche site developers!

At that point, I usually go back to keyword searching and finding another niche.

What would you do?!

I figure by this route it will take me weeks to find a few niches with the keyword domain available!

Surely this cant be the way it is?!

    use stop words Online SEO Guide: Google Stop Words - A Comprehensive List Of Words Google Ignores. you will waste alot of time trying to find an exact match domain. if you cannot, dont worry about it to much. for example if you have lose weight fast as your keyword, use loseweightfastx.com, or lose loseweightfasta.com. the exact match will give you a benefit, but with slightly more backlinks with the stop words, you get the same result.

      I don't understand your linked page on stop words. And you said "use stop words." How?

        that link was just to show examples of stop words. you can add those stop words to your exact match domain, like dogtrainingX.com

    For others, the way around for that is to add 'e' or 'i' before the keyword or key phrase. Ex. ebusinessconsulting.com. 'e' could mean e-commerce while 'i' could mean international or internet. The bad news is, this idea isn't new anymore.

    What about the .info, .us, .biz, etc?

      I`ve been led to think they are not worth using for these type of sites.

      I`m still a newb though, do you have an opinion?

    any domain can work, but the amount of backlink for .cc, .info. . biz is much higher and it takes longer to rank for them.long term its not that big of a deal i think. and if we do massive backlinking to new sites, than google can sandbox it. if you do plan to use .info,.cc, .biz, then do little direct backlinking to site, instead use web 2.0 properties as gateway to pass on the link juice.

    I have lots of friends who swear by and rank .me, .us, and .info sites all day long. exact match is exact match, it is helpful for ranking. Might take a little bit of extra work, but you'll get there regardless of extension.

    Also, try hyphenated domains, easy to rank as well

      Agreed. I saw more and more .info, .us and .me exact match domain showed up on first page. What really counts is things we add on that domain, not the domain itself.

    It shouldn't be a stopper for you if you can't purchase a domain which is a perfect match for your keywords. It is just a tiny brick to your SEO building - focus on other aspects, there are no less important.
