Well if you build backlinks and notice that they are not getting indexed then you ping the search engines and they will update your URL. That is the main basis of pinging a URL.

Pinging is safe for sure. There's nothing Black hatty about it.

If you're using WP, there's built-in pinging whenever you publish.

Pingler is also another option to consider.

There are many free pinging tools available in Google. I usually used PingMyBlog(dot)com its just simply enter your blogs name, sites url, and rss (optional) then simply click the ping or send button.

I've had better luck running my links through a service like backlinksindexer.com, it does cost a little money but almost all of my links end up getting indexed by Google. I was never able to get close to the same results when I would simply just ping my backlinks.

You can use linklicious.me to ping your links for you. Its as easy as 3 clicks. Alot of the services here will ping your links ONCE. The problem with that is that sometimes it takes 2 or 3 pings to get your links crawled...sometimes as high as 6 or 7 pings to get them crawled.

Linklicious will automatically ping your sites until your site is crawled at a rate of %100

The other problem is that a lot of the sites ping your links when you tell them to and they do it all at once..which can get your site sandboxed. Linklicious not only pings your sites until they are crawled..the drip it out at a rate you choose so that it is safe

The ping being discussed here is how do your ping other websites with the new post etc of your website. That is, how do you inform other websites that your website has a new post.

Pinging is notifying search engines that content has been created or updated.

You only need to ping when you have created or updated content on your site.

If you run WordPress pinging is done automatically.

Q: Is pinging "tricky BlueFart SEO techniques"?
A: No it's not. Search engines want to know when content is updated or created so they quickly jump in on the action and update their database.

Q: Do I HAVE to ping?
A: No, but it's useful for blogs.

Pinging is not black hat and it doesn't cause any harm to your websites.
But pinging is just the beginning of the equation. After that you need to do rss,
social blogs, blog commenting, article marketing, profile links,
whatever performs more efficient for your goals.

I use "pingoat" and "feed shark" (both free), but wanna try linklicious...

Ok, as our friends have already suggested, Pingler is there, pingoat, linklicious are also there..
As far as my knowledge goes, one should never ping there links.. Let Google slowly and steadily see those links rather then asking them forcefully[pinging] to check ur links..
I ve tested this for like 2 years ..

I don't think you've got that right. If that was the case then someone could just build a load of links to their competitors site, then ping them all to get them sandboxed.

Of course you could, and they WOULD get sandboxed...and then they would eventually come back higher in SERPS. Attacking a competitor buy building a bunch of links is like attacking an enemy with an army of vampires....sure, it will kill them...for awhile...but then they are just going to come back the dead too, stronger than ever.

Resultz is speaking on a way of increasing your SERPS without having to deal with the google dance, which can drive people crazy watching it bounce around and the fact you can be missing money while its dancing.

Pinging is not BlueFart and won't do any harm and if you're using wordpress and have the right plugins you will be pinging anyway.

The best way to get a link noticed is obviously with a paid service such as linklicious or backlink booster, but my favourite free tool is right here: Profit Instruments: Quick Index Tool

I just tried out the PingFarm and it's been pinging for the last 10 min. it's hitting close to 500 pings now! Seems a little spammy to me.. Anyone else tried this service?
