Google Adwords by COUNTY ... is it really so hard?

is it really so impossible to create a google adwords campaign based on county? seems like no matter how i come at it, i end up hitting a wall somewhere ... grrrrrrr ... ready to shoot off some fireworks at my computer!!!

    i dont think its possible. you can only target country wise, not by county wise.
    You can use Facebook advertising , that can work for you

      Can't you set this up using targeting and exclusion?

      You can specify a user based location.

      You can probably do it by putting the county in your
      keywords.

      Are you using the content network? They base more ads,
      (I think) based on IP in the content network.

    Here's an option: If you know the boundaries of a county, you can create a custom geographic target area as follows...

    Go to Settings > Locations > Custom > Custom Shape > Specify the boundaries of the geographic area you want to target.

    You can get extremely targeted with adword's. I'm currently targeting 5 mile diameter regions of London!

    the client wants 13 counties targeted.

    we've tried to enter all the cities within those counties but then google can't find a bunch of them or there are too many (100 place limit).

    then, we tried to enter all the zip codes - usually too many.

    we broke the campaign into three regions - north, south and central. still having issues with getting everything to line up nicely.

    then broke the campaign into 13 according to each county, but then that spreads the money per day too thin.

    part of the problem is me - i'm a specific-thinker not a global-thinker. i get into the details of the leaf instead of standing back and looking at the whole forest. so maybe i'm trying to be too specific.

    i'm also just a little bit nervous - i know we can do this, but it's the first time we've done it for a client and he is a little skeptical. a friend buzzed in his ear after he signed the deal with us that he has never ever had any success with adwords.

    this could also be a huge client in the future - we just need to show some awesome results and prove we can do it and the rest will be fabulous.

    i want to make sure that my campaigns are laser-targeted to each county. i tried to do the custom shape, but i get nervous that i'm leaving out parts of the county or including things that belong to a different area. am i worrying too much about something silly?

      Google is soon phasing out the custom shape targeting option, according to this Adwords Help link: Custom shape targeting sunset - AdWords Help

      I would say that your best option is to use the "radius from a map point" option, and use several overlapping target areas to cover each county, if necessary.

      Geo-targeting is not 100% laser-specific anyway, so I would not worry about being too specific.
