The Real Panda Meets Grandma
- SEO |
His name is Navneet Panda and his work created the Panda update.
Like Page Rank was named after Larry Page, the Panda update was named after Navneet.
His goal is to get Google to use artificial intelligence to evaluate every site on the Internet.
What's the criteria for evaluating your site?
I'm about to share that with you.
Around 18 months ago, Google PPC introduced a new factor into their evaluation of sites. This was done manually.
The question they asked was:
Would we be happy if our grandmother purchased something from this site?
If the answer was no, the site was forbidden to advertise on AdWords.
Now, they are not only applying the Grandma criteria to paid advertising but also to every site online.
Panda's job is to teach Google how to identify these sites without manual intervention.
Your site needs to be "Grandma Friendly".
Long sales letters? Not grandma friendly.
Websites with high bounce rates? Not grandma friendly.
Websites with thin content? Not grandma friendly.
Websites with scraped content? Fuh get about it.
What Google has decided is that the Internet needs a shake out.
It's time to remove the crap.
It happened in Google PPC.
It's happening in YouTube.
And it's happening now in Google organic SEO.
So the response is not: how can I trick Google?
The response should be:
How Can I Keep Grandma Happy?
Think about your Grandma and what she would want to see happen online.
Have a happy 4th of July.
Peace,
Harlan
