How to find a good niche

I have planned to start my own website and want them to reach at least $50-$100/month in 9-10 months. I have never done anything like this before but need to succeed. I have been searching for a niche for 2 months now and most of them are either too competitive or don't have sufficient number of keywords. Can someone help me with ways to find a good niche?

Honestly its definitely a bit of a process to find the right niche. It's keyword research and competition research mostly.

I would suggest using Youtube or just Google. Type in "niche research" or "how to find a niche for your website".

Those will show you some great, in depth instructions of exactly what to do.

Dumb question maybe...but what is a niche in terms of SEO/marketing? I know what it is in other contexts, but not in this one.

I wouldn't worry too much about competition. Competition means there is money to be made there. Pick what you want and then drill down to find some keywords in that niche that have lower competition. Then run that keyword to find the best key words for it. Start out with the lowest competition and search volumes to establish yourself.

Once you are ranking for those keywords, you can move up the ladder to the harder key words to rank for and use your internal links to push juice to those key words. It will take a while, but you should be able to get some traffic with the first few articles, and make a few dollars. After some time, you will be able to rank for the harder terms and make more money.

In my opinion anyway. But that and $5 should get you a Starbucks I think.

I just wrote the same thing in reply to another post somebody wrote. This is good advice.

Truthfully, you can do all of the necessary research for free and if you poke around here you'll learn enough about the subject to get started.

That being said, I don't think there's a better tool that comes with better training than Market Samurai. I would check out their site.

Yup, competition just means more investment, but the return is great

I have found niches with such low competition that I can get a site to make a few dollars per day in under a week.

Kind of agree with this. Highly competitive nich often means high priced offer or click. Like dating, really high competitive and well-paid, if you can find some low competitive keywords under the niche, you will make lots of $$$.

        Hi Sid,

Niche research is actually no hard at all. And $50-100/month in 9-10 months is not a realistic goal at all - it is too low!

I would put niche research down to four basic steps:
1.) Find niche keywords in everyday things,
        2.) Find a hungry market,
3.) Know your competition and how to make use of them,
        4.) Monetizing your niche.

Once you are familiar with these steps, niche research will be easy. It comes with practice.

The key is really to take action.

    Hello Sid,
What i do is pick topics that i know much about. I hardly worry much if it's low or high competition. I just go for it and dig deeper and deeper. At least that's what i've experimented with in my new one month old website.
I use the free keyword tool in conjunction with Market Samurai (though i haven't mastered MS really), but i stick around to learn much here.

Go for what you are conversant with. It flows easier.

    Good luck and best wishes.

It is the question answer discussion site.
Exactly because it's a Q&A site. Many people asking tons of questions and if you read some questions from time to time, even just the titles per subject, you might find some topics people are interested in and are asked about a lot. Then proceed to do some keyword research from there.

Atleast that's what I think he meant and what I would use it for.

Sid,it's not difficult to make $100/month.For me a good niche is that which has less competition and more searches.I think you've just started your IM career so it's best for you to do a bit research on SEO.Google is your best friend use it to find number of competitors and its keyword tool to find the keywords. If you make a serious effort you can reach your goal in a couple of months.

If I were to find a good niche, I would keep it to myself!

Find yourself a good niche by using your head and looking at the world around you.

There is so many ways to make money on the internet it's only a matter of time that the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. Take action and continue to get your work done right.

If I want to find niche for my site I go to website directories or Amazon and look at the categories they have and then put those categories in the Google keyword tool and see what comes up.
