Hi newbies,

I would like to get your attention to some very important points which I believe will save you from lots of scam and losing bunch of money. It's my duty to write these points since I learned a lot of good and bad things from this forum and I don't want any newbies to fail and loose faith.

1) Backlinks are the key to get high rankings. If you are targeting a specific keyword, use that keyword in your anchor text. After playing with anchor texts, I learned that Google seems to care more about anchor texts than my content itself. Sounds a little bit weird but true.(Obviously, you should have some content on your website and I am not saying leave your website totally empty)

2) Make sure your backlinks are dofollow!!! Unfortunately, blog commenting does not seem to give you dofollow links these days. So it does not really help you much. Obviously, high PR backlinks increase your chances more for ranking higher in Google. Please make sure that the page that your link resides in has a high PR value. Don't just look at the domain PR value.

3) Those two points above are really crucial and have definitely brought me success. Unfortunately, before knowing those two I got ripped off bunch of times by so called SEO guys and websites. You'll find a lot of people on the web who claims to create 500 backlinks in a week. I got ripped off bunch of times by those guys because their backlinks did not have any PR value. Google simply does not care!!

4) You'll find a lot of people in this forum trying to sell you SEO services and they usually talk about article submissions to directories, blog commenting and social bookmarking. Unfortunately, the directories they submit to often have PR0 value and you loose money. Don't fall into their scams. You may see a lot of people commenting to their threads here, saying that their service was great. Those are often scammers themselves or people who does not what they are talking about!! Again, please don't fall into their traps!

5) Often someone tells you that it takes 2-3 weeks for Google to index your site when he builds backlinks for you. Do you know what to tell him? Simply say: F*** OFF! That's not true.

My final recommendation is the following:
Pay attention to points 1 & 2, and contact other members in link exchange forum to get permanent backlinks at their website. There are some websites on the web who also sells high PR backlinks in exchange for a monthly fee. You can try those but never pay money to any person or service provider who claims he can rank you high in Google by using methods of blog commenting, article writing and social bookmarking. I've tried 5 different SEO worker in odesk.com who had really good ratings. Same **** happened with all 5. They never followed my guidelines and their backlinks were either nofollow or got deleted within hours.

I've been through all the phases of SEO and I hope you take my thread seriously.

Thanks for reading!!

      Pretty good post.

Just a few things I'd like to add.

      1. While, yes, you want good anchor text, having terrible content is going to severely hurt your rankings. Unique & properly optimized content is pretty important.

      2. There's still plenty of DoFollow blogs out there. You just have to dig around.

      3. You're 100% right about the page vs domain PR. This is something that needs to frequently be pointed out. A PR0 backlink from a page within a PR6 domain does not equal a "high PR backlink."

    All the phases?

    Really?

You've barely scratched the surface of SEO.

What about onsite SEO strategies? Internal linking strategies?

What about social strategies and their implications on SEO?

Yes, the OP shared something, but don't lull people to think this is the only thing SEO is about.

Many think what we know as traditional SEO is now dead and changes made by Google signifies the beginning of the end. I'm not sure if I agree with that but there is more to optimization than what this post leads anyone to believe.

This post is meant to protect newbies, not to teach them how to excel in SEO. I am sure there are thousands of different ways to get higher rankings but the scammers on this forum and others try to trick you and sell you nothing but air.

Do you think that you are the only guy in this universe who knows about high PR directories and their advantage? And you are allowed to post on high PR directories an no one

My pages get indexed within 4 days max. It used to be longer, but the more "trust" Google gave me for my site the faster everything becomes. Now i just put a new article, tweet it, digg it and within few days its indexed.

I can only agree with you on the first point.
You said only dofollow links count? How will it look to google if your website only has dofollow links. That screams FAKE all over the place.

Also on the PR point. Yes high PR links are far far more powerfull, but if you only have high PR links you scream FAKE all over again.

The point i'm trying to make here is: google is looking for natural website growth. You need to diversify and get all kinds of links out there. Like every natural website would get.

I definitely agree with you but a site can't natural grow if the article writer is submitting articles for you to directories that even Google never heard of. When I bought SEO services from one guy here, he submitted an article for me to 1000 directories. I waited for weeks and weeks, and saw only 50 of them being indexed. He kept telling me that it takes time. I lost $100 since the article directories he submitted are simply PR0- and did not effect anything. I was definetely a newbie and he ripped me off.

If you can diversify backlinks from good sources then you have a chance. There is no point in investing to article submitters, if the directories are full of crap.

There is a thanks button in this forum to thank others for their writings. I wish there would be also a 'scammer' button so that I can show you how many dishonest people make money here.
