Hello,
I'm on the verge of launching a new product in a nearly untouched market place.

I'm not so keen on outsourcing the marketing, as I'm worried about creating unwanted competition. I've gone so far as to asking some firms to sign non compete contracts, only one has agreed.

At any rate, I'm interested in possibly setting up a solid model, that I can train someone to do in house, or possibly a virtual assistant somewhere to do.

I have done backlinking campaigns in the past, you know the usual scrape box, xrumer type.. but overtime the backlinks fall of and so don't your SERPS.

I'm interested in this being a long term project. I'm not to worried about getting to t he top of the SERP's for this niche as it's competition is mediocre are best, but staying there is what I'm concerned about.

What is a good gameplan besides "backlink" , I subscribe to angela and pauls packets, but still don't think that's enough.

Link wheels , link pyramids, blog comments? (ugh) .. Just wondering how I should attack this.

Thanks,
Dennis

As far as I know, it's best for your links to appear natural, and grow over time. Google recognized when people were making three way links, which go in a circle, and they will probably be placing more importance on quality rather than quantity, which means stuff people want to read. Quality articles which do well in a Google search are probably best, but all links are good, as long as they appear gradually.

I would highly suggest the method that I describe in my sig link. I hate to do the self plug, but it's really my best suggestion.

I think you have to do multiple backlinking method to rank high in google, that's the very best thing I can suggest you because it actually works, indeed. Some powerful tips for you:
    - build slow and steady backlinks (you can go 50 backlinks per day or 100 per day, no worry, just give it a shot!)
    - be consistent, don't really expect fast upfront revenue when it comes to SEO
    - SEO is not complicated, just steady backlinks
    - make sure your backlinks are indexed (index your backlinks by pinging, RSS submit, bookmark)
    - Hopefully you have some money to invest in, if you don't then you can get SEnuke X for free 14 days (make sure you learn fast to use it)
    - no one knows how long it takes to rank high in google when it comes to SEO, hopefully in 2-4 weeks

If you feel like you want to learn more aobut SEO , I think you can browse through the WSO, you can find tons of cheap price WSO there, or go to SEO section in WF, there're tons of helpful tips about it.

If there's not a ton of competition, here's what I would do. It's actually exactly what I do, and I have good results.

Step 1. Do some press releases and submit them to webwire. It's $20, but worth 10 times that. You'll get targeted traffic and tons of links as the release is syndicated.

Step 2. Use Build My Rank (its a very highly regarded link network). This isn't free, but it provides high PR in context links. They work great.

Step 3. Find high PR blog PAGES to comment on. Manually comment on those.

Step 4. Use Article Marketing Robot (I just do this for some link diversity).

Step 5. Order some fiverr gigs for social bookmarking (I only do this occasionally)

If you make sure your on-page stuff is good and follow this plan, I doubt you'll have any problems ranking and staying there.

Interesting plan, thanks for the input. When yous ay blog commenting, do you mean just scrapebox it out to high PR Sites?

        • I thought the Angela/Paul stuff had been discredited by now. Someone gave me "Angela" for free -- of the few forums that still allowed links in profiles, all were no-follow.

I use scrapebox to find the blogs to comment on. It's an awesome tool for research. Feel free to use the auto post feature if you want, but it sounds like you don't need to worry about it here.

After you have the high PR pages, you can either post on them yourself, or just outsource the blog commenting.

Why not develop your own network of affiliates. Make them a killer offer and let them do the heavy lifting.

Because then, I'll see an influx of other people copying my product and I would have created more competition for myself.

There are very few other products out there like ours that we have identified. The others are just crap compared to what we'll be offering.

Before bringing on affiliates, I'd rather be the first one pushing it.. then maybe we'll seek affiliates.

Maybe my mentality is skewered, but it makes sense to me.

Just say NO to link spam! You said it yourself that overtime the links "fall off". I'd also like to point out that the past is the past. Google recently did an update called Panda/Farmer. Farmer was targeting link farms that most of these "$50 for a gazillion links" target to get all those links.

Your best bet because it is as you say a rather untapped niche market is to get creative. Go to your local news sources, give them a sample & have them write, video whatever about it. Then Google the keywords associated with your product & do the same thing with the sites that come up. It takes quite a bit of effort, but you will get excellent organic links with a write up about your product. -> Can your link spammer do that???

Repeat after me: 1 awesome organic links is better than 100 link farm links

If you have time to be surfing forums asking questions... you have time to do this Trust me, you won't be sorry you made the effort. It takes time but is soooooooo worth it.

So one of the problems is, there is not too many (besides about.com) authority sites that I can even goto link exchange with them.

I think the press release method may be the best way to get the site on authority sites.

How many press releases should be written?

Additionally, maybe I should contact news and radio stations? It's certainly worthy of that attention. And that should drive organic traffic and links...

      Thanks again!

If you submit through webwire you're press release will get picked up by a lot of places. Maybe consider submitting one per week for a while and seeing how that goes.

I've picked up a tremendous amount of knowledge, plus good techniques, from Link Liberation. It's a course+software deal, very intensive, pretty spendy, but extremely good at teaching you the techniques for getting "high quality" backlinks from relationship-building and a ton of other techniques.

@LeahRae is right. A few quality backlinks can pay off, not just in authority, but by building a relationship with the person backlinking, where you might get even more links in the future from the relationship give-and-take.

The course is called Link Liberation 2, by Dan Thies and Leslie Rohde. Even their free stuff is great info.
