If EMD is not avaliable I usually purchase keywordx.com, ekeyword.com, they are really close to EMD and they works for me really good.

Just use the emd with a different domain extension like .info, .biz, etc.

Google has never deindexed an entire TLD.

Then stop monkeying around with IM. Go get an offline job.
If you are fearful, there must be a reason. The only way to cure your
disease is to stop making websites.

What the heck are you dong that you afraid of a de-index?
Domain extension has nothing to do with a de-index.

If people spent real time on real things, instead of BS on picking
a stupid domain name and worrying about a de-index, man, you
        people might get somewhere.

You don't have to use hyphens for your domain name. Though it will not harm your site, it is not also much advisable to use them.

I don't recommend hyphens. we've never had a really successful site with a hyphen yet. not so much for SEO reasons, rather simply because people tend to forget them and it sort of reduces the brand value of the site.

It doesn't matter. It is quite true that EMD plays a factor that helps. However, that doesn't mean that having a domain that's not matching with keyword, won't get ranked for that keyword or has something with negative effect.
