Backlink Energizer Question

I'm experiencing the dreaded "punctuation being replaced with question marks" phenomenon that's apparently quite common in the imported-rss-to-post world. The plugin mentioned in the title of this post is working as advertised as far as functionality, but these ??????'s are killing me. They're in the titles, not in the titles, in the body copy, not in the body copy...


I've read everything I can find in 6 different forums and all I can conclude is that no one knows what the hell they're talking about. It's in the source. It's in the parsing tool, it's in the plugin. It's the Republicans' fault. You name it.


Is there a way to eliminate the ?-for ' problem with this plugin?

    Sure would be nice if the plug-in author would respond! I'm posting to Web 2.0 sites and don't seem to have this problem (replacing apostrophes and such with ???'s) but posting to my own WP blogs is a ??? nightmare. Yes, sounds like a WP problem but the plugin developer should know how to address the problem, yes?

    Are they little black diamonds with question marks inside them?

    I've seen this problem sometimes when you paste copy from one document/computer onto another document/computer, mostly between mac and pc's. I think it has something to do with diferent character set set-up's on different computers, but i can't be sure.

    Are there any options on the plugin to change the character sets?

    No, not little black diamonds. Just plain old question marks. And there's no option provided in the plugin to change character sets. and there's no copying/pasting going on. Pulling rss feeds in and the plugin posts the content on some of my blog sites.

    Has anyone else been using BLE for the last several weeks? I've had it running none-stop (and yes, it's all set up correctly) and it's running like a champ but I'm not seeing much of any kind of positive results in additional indexed links. Anyone else experiencing anything better than that? (If you're getting far better results than I'm experiencing then I want to know what I'm doing wrong; if BLE simply isn't effective anymore then I want to quit wasting my time with it.)

      I wonder if it really is a WordPress issue because I am experiencing the same issue when I use WP-Syndicator.

      So, while I am waiting for a resolution, I don't use anything that requires an apostrophe or quotation marks.

      While I have heard of it, I am not familiar with Backlinks Energizer so I don't know it this would provide you with a temporary solution.

      Just wanted to say- I think it's an issue with WordPress.

    it is a bit of a pain in bum, one workaround would be a simple plugin which does a regex replace something like match (\w)\?(\w) and replace with $1'$2
