Benefits of a 'static' landing page?

I came across a few sites with a 'static' landing page, that require users to click "ENTER" (or something similar) in order to access the real content behind.

While some website like bestbuy.ca allow users to select their language before accessing to their ecommerce site. Whats the benefit of this?

A landing page with pretty much NO content. How will this help in terms of SEO? Am i missing something here?

    There is no SEO benefit. They just want visitors to click enter. That is a call to action.

      It's not a waste of time, it has it's own benfit. SEO is not just the only benfit that you get online, that site is owned by a huge company and they may be getting huge amount of visitors that speaks french so don't judge

    You zero SEO benefits but that's even the good because you get to optimize you inside traffic, generate lots of visitos who will finally end up seeing the static page before they continue to the actual page, this is normally done using a tiny php coding that you will save in your index page which will makes sure that before anybody visits the index page or whatever page, they see the landing page first and with that you get to enjoy your SEO too without any risk.

    I love how bestbuy.ca created their, it's totally in-house and they uses .aspx, awesome job. I love it
