On-Page SEO for other posts?

Hi, so I got a question I'm wondering about. If, for example, I have a blog about certain keyword X.

I make my first post optimized exactly for that keyword.

Then, I make my second post, but isn't optimized at all as it is high quality content. Sometimes, it's just not worth destroying the quality for perfect on-page optimization.

On my homepage, I have both posts displayed. However, the first one to appear, for the moment, is my second post that isn't optimized.

(My writer is still writing my optimized post which is going to become sticky on my homepage)

Will that dramatically affect my SEO for the time being since it's my site's premiere?

    I typically have a Page on the front page via Reading Settings.
    That page will be BOTH keyword optimised and will make for quality reading and will usually be about 800 words.

    I then make posts that go deeper into different areas of the topic.

    All posts are categorised. Menus & Breadcrumbs are used. Links to internal posts are placed within the content of the frontpage where appropriate. The posts themselves may linkback to the homepage where appropriae.

    On the sidebar, I either have Recent Posts or a select few Featured Posts.

    My sites usually have 30 to 100 posts targeting as many keywords and you can go wrong with that. Over time many pages will rank even without external backlinks of their own.

    Hmm that may be true for authority websites, but what about niche oriented blogs? I'll only make maximum 10 posts.

    These are niche blogs I am talking about. Not micro niches, but sites on a single topic.

    If your site has only 10 posts, same technique can be applied. Have your homepage rank for the keyword with the most searches and then use the power of it to help your other pages rank by having strong internal links.

    I think we should make a link between two pages.
    So no matter what page is displayed on the search engine.
    user can access the second page.
    (In case that the contents of the two are related).
