Hello there, was hoping for some advice.

I just got into helping other marketers rank their sites for chosen keywords by building lots of backlinks.

But since I just started I am wondering exactly what I should charge. Right now I am only working with one client but am not charging anything until he at least ranks in the top 3 for his competitive keywords which is very close.

I am doing this because he is my first client and he agreed to leave a glowing testimonial if everything works out. Then hopefully that will be a good start for helping others.

I have checked out what others are charging and it ranges from a couple hundred dollars a month to thousands with legit SEO companies depending on how competitive the keywords are.

For links I am basically building Web 2.0 pages, mini blog networks, and using paid link building services such as UAW to supplement it all.

I research the niche in depth by reading articles and even buy info products on the niche. That way I can create lots of unique quality content. So with the amount of effort I put in I am thinking $300/month at the very least considering I strive for them to hit number one rather than just page one.

Would like to hear feedback.

I usually ask for £500 per month retainer and then performance related bonuses based on positions.

If you are really good, then SEO consulting comes with a price upfront. It can be anywhere from 500 to 5000 thousand dollars depending on the project. What I usually do when a person want to do Seo or have SEO done for a site we get everything up front. If we do not perform we either one) keep doing the work until the rankings are performed or 2) money back guarantee. IF you cannot do a money back guarantee, then practice some more. I hope this helps.

Okay $500 a month sounds like a fair price. I can probably focus on 3 or 4 clients at a time. Thanks for your input guys.

In my opinion, you should charge what you are worth, if that makes sense.

Think of it this way. Say you weren't consulting for them, and you were working on your own sites. How much money would you be making from your own projects? Essentially you need to ask yourself, "How much money is my time worth?"

When I started out, I charged my first client $200/month. I hated every second of it because I was getting worked. He was making a killing off of my efforts and I was getting something like $10/hour. My next client I picked up I was charging $2000 a month. (It was a much more difficult keyword, I was more experienced, etc) I now charge what I'm worth. If I lose clients because I am too expensive for them, that's fine with me. Chances are good I would not have enjoyed doing the work for them.

You may need to test your prices out a little and see what you feel good about charging, but you will need to probably charge different prices for different keywords or niches.

I agree with the previous posts about charging what you feel your services are worth. At the same time, take a look to see what your bottom line is. For me, I have VA's doing a lot of the hard work, so that I can focus on strategy and customer retention. My first thought is to how much there services are and then I can add a premium for me to monitor the campaigns along with making sure that everything is part of a strategy. Not just willy nilly seo. Hope that helps!

  • I wouldn't sell yourself short. Just make sure you have enough cushion there to make a profit. I'd probably charge $500+ if it's local. More if it's a national company!

Your prices largely depends on your portfolio. If you have a great website and a solid SEO portfolio with all proofs of your work. You can surely ask much more money from your clients. Most of the clients look for credibility and portfolio. If you have Solid portfolio, Video testimonials, great looking website and great marketing skills. You can charge a huge money
