Well I think that it says that all numbers are just an estimation. Sometimes you actually won't get that many visitors and sometimes you will get more than projected.

I'm at #6 in G for a keyword that is supposed to get 6k exact traffic per month, but in reality I only get about 200 so far. It happens.

According to the percentage of clicks that Google position get's well your right on the spot with a #6 for an exact match keyword of 6000...

According to many survey's and test, 6th position would grab about 4% of the traffic... so 4% of 6000 get's you around 240 by month..

I use the Google Keyword tool regularly, and I don't have a problem with it.

In fact, I think it does the job very well.

You may want to check your parameters to make sure your resultant searches are displaying exactly what you want to research.

You mention you've "done some digging...happens to be true" what exactly do you mean by that and what sources revealed that for you?

Using just one keyword tool is not recommended, it always pays to cross check results. the Google keyword tool I believe is biased towards adwords results so I would take care when trying to use it to gauge organic results.

Do your own tracking and see how it compares. When selecting keywords I use the Google keyword tool, and also look at Alexa, Google, Bing and Yahoo search results to see how things match up and check out the competition.

You generally know when you are onto a good keyword by your own business results, some people spend more time trying to figure things out rather than provide information people are searching for which will build their income. If a keyword is not working for you after a period of time change it out for another one.

As I know that most keyword research tools are based on Google Keyword Tool (examle semrush) so i think that GKT is accurate but i wouldn't say it is absolutely 100%.

I doubt it exists. The web is too fluid.
If you want accuracy run an AdWords campaign to test.
Use GKT exact match and compare to other keywords to try and get a feel for it, but don't expect the same numbers.

Be sure to Check off Broad and use exact match instead... And Use Global search, add advanced Options and filters as well.
Btw, some results will show a number and change within an hour.. it happens

JMO but it's either Google's keyword tool or Wordtracker for keywords. All the keyword tools I've tried uses Google's data, it's probably the most accurate tool to gauge keywords though some people prefer Wordtracker's paid subscription (haven't used it in years so I wouldn't know).

One thing a lot of people do is use the numbers as "real time" search volume. Realize that it's a 12 month average so it's an ESTIMATED number.

For example, the keyword tool shows 8,100 searches for the keyword "electric heaters", but it's over a hundred degrees in some areas of the US. So right now the figures are high, but in December the figures will roughly be the same, however at that time the figures will be low.

I think Google keyword gives you a pretty good range and you can tell the more important keywords etc... The data does change, but i think it's a decent enough insight

I like GKT and have been always using it to check my keywords. But I often use both the keywords which I can image and GKT together to generate my keyword list.

Well, I have to agree with OP that there is something wrong with GKT. I have several sites that use keywords which give very good exact match searches around 8k on the old GKT but the new GKT shows that there is no traffic '-'. My site is still getting a lot of traffic from these keywords daily because they are ranked #1 or #2, it makes me suspicious of the tool's data ever since they changed to the new tool.
