ping services keep disappearing

hi,

i've just installed the "cbnet ping optimizer" plugin and added a bunch of ping services to its list, then saved the changes but every time I click away from it and then return to the plugin's settings screen all of the ping services are gone. The list is empty again

I don't know what is wrong so that I fix it. And this happens on all of my sites, so it's not an isolated case

If anyone knows the answer to this issue, please share! cbnet ping optimizer is one of the most important plugins to be found on each WP installation, so you can't just let it go.

Thanks

    Hi monere,

You should be addressing your question to the developer of the plugin, not here. I have never heard anyone on this forum mention that they used that plugin. If I were you I would forget it. Wordpress has automatic pinging built in, there is no need for a plugin.

For what it's worth, the developer of that plugin, Chip Bennett, recently posted the following on the support site:
I am actually of the opinion that most of what's in the Ping Optimizer plugin is no longer needed.

never mind. I figured it out

It was happening because the privacy settings of my website were set to block the search engines. As soon as I allow my blog to be seen by the SEs the list of services reappears.

      Thanks anyway

One more thing: the most important function of ping optimizer is that it allows for limiting excessive pinging of your website, therefore avoiding getting it flagged as spammy. For every little change you do to the content of your blog, WP automatically pings the pinging services, and if you do such changes (small or big, doesn't matter) 10 times in 2-3 minutes (just an example), 10-20 times a day, each day, then this really adds up. But through this plugin you can set WP to only ping the services once every xxxx minutes, so you can not run into issues.

      Cheers!

        Hi monere,

Perhaps I am wrong, but I thought that problem was resolved in version 3 of Wordpress. That's why I pointed out the post by the developer that in his opinion this plugin is no longer needed.

To be honest, I have no idea if it has been resolved. But I will look into this. One plugin less is always better than one more
