I have a few websites I built where my "about us" page or "contact us" page ranks for my intended keywords instead of my main page. The main page is still indexed but no where to be found by any tool. These not new sites in fact they are almost a year old.

I cant understand why this is happening.

Can someone shed some light on my situation?

Thanks

Mike

A good internal linking structure will do the trick.
maybe your sub pages don't have any links pointing to your index page.

Just to be sure that you're not using flash? The website is purely html?

Double check to make sure you are building links to home page and not something else. Almost sounds like you don't have many links to begin with. Are you using a linking strategy or is this all on page SEO?

You need to improve the internal linking structure of your site. Also submit a sitemap with all the URLs so the SE don't have any difficulty finding URLs that would other wise go
    unnoticed.

I'm gonna echo what a few others have said and check out your internal linking structure. This can have crazy SEO benefits, and many people don't even come close to maximizing it.

That said - how old is this site as well as the content on the TLD?
