Everyone knows that you should have the keyword you're targeting in the title, description, URL, and <h1> tags, but what else can you do to maximize your on-page SEO?

Also keywords in Image alt Tags, obviously some keyword rich content, embed video, linking out to good topic relevant sites, & good internal linking back to the home page for you main target keyword

I made these changes last night to my site and i checked my rankings today and noticed that my site went from #8 to #5! Is there anything else I can do on-page to increase my rankings?

Proper meta tags are essential, as in nofollow, dofollow, index, noindex. Keep in mind, the way you format these meta tags is dependent on what type of site it is. If it is a sniper site ranking for a single keyword it's going to differ from the meta tags of a site that is trying to become an authority site with multiple categories and keywords.

      Could you elaborate on this?

I'm struggling to make sense of this too...

"meta tags as in nofollow, dofollow, index, noindex"

In fact, no part of what you say makes sense to me.

    1. Do <h1> <h2> and <h3> in the title
    2. make 2-3% of keyword density
    3. Image alt tags
    4. embed video (usually Youtube)
    5. Link to other related site and link to other articles within your site

    I hope this will help
    Cheers,

    -Stefano

I think targeted keyword is the most important part in On Page to make it more consistent in emphasizing your site's summary but still focus in improving your site's rankings in search engine. It is more helpful than spending an hour on On Page.

I think she meant to say - meta tags are as essential as noindex, index, etc. Personally, I think that Image Alt tags are very important for SEO.

These are things I have done for on-page seo so far:

    - kw in url
    - kw in title
    - kw in description
    - kw in <h1> and <h2>, related kw in <h3>
    - kw mentioned twice in post (which is about 550 words)
    - 5-7 LSI keywords mentioned throughout the post
    - internal links contain anchor text related to the primary keyword of the page
    - image alt tags
    - youtube video

Is there anything else I can do to maximize on-page seo?

Link out to an authority site, I like to find a news story about the topic of my site & link out to that.

      Look at these site:

      BBC - Homepage PR9
msnbc.com - Breaking news, science and tech news, world news, US news, local news- msnbc.com PR8

Do a search on these sites using your target keyword, you should be able to find high PR page relating to the topic of your site. Place a link on your site linking out to the news story page.

Your site's content needs to be optimized in such a way that it can suit both search engines & your readers. Stuffing your site with too many keywords can make your site unreadable. So you will need to have some sort of balance between your keywords & your content.

Try my Big Page of SEO for tons of stuff concerning "on page" SEO. I wrote this 5-6 years ago, but it's still more "advanced" than much of the stuff you'll read today.

If the page is down, try again, as I'm having the strangest problem with this domain. Sometimes it's up, sometimes it's not and I can't figure out if it's the domain register or my host causing the problem.

If you have images and videos on your site then use the <alt> tags with the keywords used in them. Use of proper header tags with keywords, anchor text with the keywords for each

Set your H1, H2, H3 tags, they should be your title or keywords. title should be enough smart to represent your keywords. images or videos should have alt tag. rename them and save them by your keywords. be smart with your self and reader also.
