How much a backlink boost's my PR !?

Hello!

I have a question that is bugging me for some time:

Depending on the PR of the page where I post my link how much will boost my PR ??

I read somewhere that if I get a back link from a PR6 my PR will rise to 3. It is this true?
What I want to know is a backlink PR transition, something like this:
Link page PR6=>My page PR3
or
Link page PR6=>My page PR2
Or a PR transition like this does not exists ?

    I think a large no of quality back linking can improve your page ranking.

        The higher the PR, the better your rankings, it is as simple as that..

    Accorging to Google if a page have PR x and contains y out ound links then the pr distibution for each link will be =x/y.

    There are no rules for this and no one can give you an exact answer. This is exactly why Google are not updating the PR on a daily basis (even though it does update every day, we just can't see it) because they don't want us to know and learn how to manipulate the PR of our sites.

    I think you should just keep building quality backlinks and forget about dealing and obsessing over your PR.

    All you need is a few really really good links.

    Ive had some new sites jump to PR3 from brand new registration within 3 weeks. (4 new domains to be exact) with a few links from some very high authority sites. PR6 and PR5.

    A few blogroll/sidbar links from very high PR sites like that with very low out bound links will jump your PR in no time.

    Before doing it this way, it took me about 9 months to build a brand new domain to a PR4 with the latest update. That site has about 6600 backlinks from all over the place and many high authority links as well...

    But I made 4 brand new domains (less than one month old) all hit PR3 with a few blogroll links on some PR6 and PR5 sites.
