An example would be putting your signature on a forum profile using a keyword for the link back to your site. There are many other ways to get backlinks, such as writing articles, blog commenting, bookmarking, e.t.c. Just Google search it and you'll find lots of info on that topic.

On top of that, I would like to add on the nofollow and dofollow effect. It is essential to get a dofollow link because getting a nofollow is like not building links at all. I did not discourage to stop building nofollow because there are many high traffic nofollow blog which can give you a good traffic to your site if you build your links well. Start building link with Forum posting and move on with blog commenting

You can use BB Code or HTML Code to create link And submit it through profile links, Article Submission, blog commenting, social bookmarking, forum posting etc.

You can get links or traffic as much as you can if you have a software like SEnuke. i used it for my link building. its great and very cool stuff.

If you are newbie then you have to read some on SEO then have to start with basic directory submission..
In simple words,back link is a link of your post which you can see without log-in in particular site.
