Google is freaking me out!

Right now I am doing some SEO work for a client in the US - I am based in the UK . . .

So, when I do a search term for the website I am working on, I get #6 on the 1st page - when I saw that I was so pleased! This is returned on google.co.uk

When the guy I was working for checked his placement its #3 on page 3 for exactly the same search term but on google.com (US side).

Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

    One of three reasons

Personalized search: You're getting personalized search results because of cookies and/or webhistory if you're logged in. Make sure you log into your Google account, hit the gear on the top right of the SERP, click web history, delete and disable it. This will stop personalized searching from happening when you're logged in. Alternatively, delete your cookies and whatnot.

Localized Results: Google will return localized results. If you change your "location" to United States, you should be able to eliminate this. Google.co.uk will generally favor sites in the UK. Even further, Google may favor sites in your arae. Since the site is in the US, I think it's more likely that it's a personalized result error and not localized.

Google.co.uk might also just be returning different results from Google.com. Google will sometimes roll out algorithm or SERP changes in different areas at different times. The different engines might also update rankings at different times.

Many times the search results will be different for Google.com, Google.co.uk or Google.ae etc. Just follow the Google.com search results and your site will be on top everywhere i.e on All Google search sites.
