AMR - Is drip feeding pointless?

I've heard some people say that drip feeding submissions over time is pointless because the articles get reviewed at different times so there is no chance of too many backlinks being built at once.

But some other people recommend drip feeding as not to create a "footprint". I haven't got a clue what type of footprint they are talking about.

Is all at once the way to go? At the moment i only schedule it to submit about 30 per hour. Is this a stupid thing to do?

To be honest it's all about velocity, it doesn't matter if you drip feed or not. If you made a website and within a week or so you were getting 300 backlinks a week as your website went viral, do you think Google would punish you for this? Probably not.

Drip feeding probably is pointless, just ensure that you keep the same link building velocity. I'm also not entirely sure what 'footprint' these people talk of, but i wouldn't worry about it personally.

I personally think 30 per hour is a lot, i tend to do 5 per day using BuildMyRank.

Many article directories with AMR don't approve articles so 30 per hour isn't really much when it comes down to it.

By "velocity" do you mean that if I submit an article to 1000 article directories on a monday, then I should also submit to 1000 on a tuesday, etc..

Im not sure velocity is so important because if it was then someone could just blast thousands of links to someone elses site and they wouldn't even know that the links have been built unless they check their site with a backlink checker.

Plus if someone has multiple websites, there is good chance they may not check up on that particular sites backlinks for some time.

Velocity isn't the only ranking factor, obviously, so this alone wouldn't raise a flag (normally) with Google. However this coupled with other rankings factors may well just raise that dreaded flag.

If you want to put Google to the test, trying mixing up link building velocity (vary it greatly) along with using the same anchor text for every back link and see what the result is. It's neigh on impossible to 'guess' what factors make a website get deindexed, ranking drop etc, but some of us believe what we believe and that's that.

One of my affiliate websites was dropped from the results due to using the same anchor text (or at least that's what i believe). I started building varying anchor text and would you believe it, it started to rank again. Google uses so many variables so it's neigh on impossible to find exactly what causes a ranking drop or deindex.

These are just my opinions, of course, we all have our own beliefs and what-not, but as long as we get what we want in the world of SEO then there generally isn't a problem with that.

Edit: Just thought i'd mention that i've never experienced being sandboxed or such for building lots of links fast and therefore can't say that being penalised for this is a possibility, i just like to be safe, that's all.

Maybe my comment "it's all about velocity" isn't quite what i meant >.<

Is it ok if you just vary your anchor to your inner pages, but use the same anchor text to your main page? Would this still be varied enough? I've heard that when building links to your main page, it's ok to use the same anchor text.

I wouldn't do that personally, no. It doesn't generally matter where the links are pointing to, if they're all the same then something seems suspicious, or at least in the eyes of Google.

There aren't any websites out there that i know of that get natural backlinks of the exact same anchor text. It isn't natural and isn't something i would ever do - i've done it before and suffered for it.

I mean let's say i wanted to link to a page about water purifying and i choose the anchor text "how to purify your water" - what are the chances that everyone else linking to the page will use this exact anchor text? Very slim.
