My AdWords Account Was Reactivated!!

Woot!

Unfortunately, a few months ago I followed the advice of a WSO that didn't use the best practices as far as AdWords. Then, BAM, my account was disabled..FOR-EV-ER...

Well, not really forever as this morning (not even an hour ago), my account was reactivated. Here's how:

1. I emailed and called Google like a crazy ex that will do whatever it takes to "work things out".

I emailed Google and said that I understood it wasn't them..it was me..and that I could change. They decided to give me another chance under certain conditions. You would be surprised at how well just asking what you can do to possibly get reinstated will work. That said, I can't speak for everyone, as the site that I was pointing to wasn't full of schemes and such.

2. I added more unique content and made the theme the default one for Wordpress

I let Google know that I would stay interesting for them..and wear that theme they like. Google loves unique and regular content. Also, I changed the theme to the basic one to make sure there was NO way anything would offend them.

3. I waited a few months

I wanted to time out my posts and give Google time to see that I was willing to work for our relationship. I wanted to show Google that I wasn't going to just buy some articles, post them up in a day, and then be done with it. No..I was going to buy articles...span them across months...then be done with it (jk). I created content and made it friendly, then spanned it out to show that I was engaging visitors.

That's really it. I just wanted to post this up to let people know that all is not lost if you get canceled. Just BEG and COMPLIMENT...cry a bit to make the pain go away..and then BEG some more.

Seriously though, if anyone else has tips or tricks for getting AdWords or Adsense accounts reactivated...then please do share.

It was definitely a learning experience that "all that is posted on WF is not gold". Just because their account hasn't been canceled doesn't mean yours is made out of Adamantium as well. It was my first time using AdWords for something that didn't have to do with an offline client...sooo..I was pretty green in that arena.

    I got banned forever too.

I got around it by convincing my wife she needed an Adwords account and I would look after it. Having said that I barely use it.

Your post has encouraged me to do what you did. I'm not a big PPC user but its a very useful weapon to have in the arsenal.

Thank you, and remember: Don't screw with Google! Lol

Google is so dramatic with it's forever thing (but don't tell Google I said that about it behind it's back ). Good luck getting your account back up and running!

Awesome! Glad that this post is helping people out!

You guys can PM me if you want portions of the email that I sent in. It was nothing fancy, but I guess it worked.

oh....good but how was it deactivated by google?
I ran a campaign that drew people into a page with basic product information and an opt-in form. Google didn't like that it was a "Learn how to possibly save X amount of money on energy" thing, so it broke up with me =[

It's been my experience with anything that you can turn people around if you - talk nice, be cordial as you explain how you didn't mean it and won't ever do it again - and some sob story always helps. Let's face it. They don't 'really' want to lose your business and like any good customer service, they should be ready and willing to work with users to resolve issues.

Now, if this becomes a habit - doing the wrong thing and getting banned - then, it's your own fault. Learn from your mistakes. In future, do some research to make sure whatever you're planning is allowed - if necessary, contact them directly and ask before proceeding.

You know, when I worked in offices and was given instructions, I seldom asked questions - because I thought I understood what I was to do. When I got it wrong, the boss would scold me - "If you didn't understand, you should have asked!" which is a rather stupid response. If you think you know you're doing it right, you don't have any questions. You don't know what you're doing is wrong.

Somewhere along the way, I developed a 'gut feeling' which amounted to some form of common sense. Once I started listening to those feelings, I saved myself a lot of scoldings. But once in awhile, I'd ignore them - only to suffer the consequences.

So develop that kind of sixth sense - trust your gut. In my experience, if it doesn't feel right, it isn't. Of course, if you don't know it's wrong (as in my little story), your only recourse is to plead your case and hope for a favorable resolution.

Nice job getting your AdSense account back up and running, but it's a shame that you didn't use those few months in between to figure out much more lucrative ways of monetizing your content. I know, I know, I'm always the bubble burster!

That's basically how it was. I actually had campaigns going to solid business sites, but that one IM strategy that I tried (the first time I dared to send traffic to any IM site) was my downfall. I just didn't think to take the time to read the TOS for that sort of thing. I didn't "ask questions". This wasn't a site bogged with popups, mandatory clicking, or anything like that...but it seems just the mention of possible savings was too much =[. I'm definitely going to contact them before starting most campaigns to ensure this never happens again. Also, I'm going to stick to methods that I know have worked for me in IM (so keep AdWords for business client use only). Thanks for sharing your experience and advice!

Ah, didn't even notice your mistake..it was AdWords. I monetize my content in other ways. Thanks for the congrats though. =]

Accounts? Wow, good luck! Hope this was some help. I just see a lot of people in the forums that have given up. AdWords isn't the end-all, but it could help people that I work with...so it was worth fighting for. Like sylviad said, most people will respond to kindness and a sincere intention to learn what you did wrong and do better.

So you sacrificed anything/everything/whatever it takes to please google over the course of a few months? Wow that's some power big G has over you.

Congrats and also use this experience to realize Google is not the only way to play, though I'm happy for you it's a true shame you're shaping your business around the likes of what G wants.
I'm not sure how you got that my business is being shaped around Google from my previous posts. This is simply something extra that I can provide clients with that could be of benefit to them. One post about how I reinstated one thing that can be of benefit does not mean it's a full business plan or strategy. It's like saying that because I decide to do one thing that it's what I base everything around =\.

I didn't sacrifice anything/everything/whatever. A lot of the above phrasing was just to have a bit of fun with the post. The basics are that I contacted them, expressed interest in reactivating my account and doing everything the right way, then followed up with that. I'm not sure how this amounts to me shaping my business around Google?

I'm sure that you didn't mean any harm by it, but it's a bit irritating to have your business strategies and process judged wrongly. Thanks for the congrats, it feels good to not be "banned forever" from something..lol.

Good job on getting the account back.

    On the other hand:

If a company can just out of the blue close your account and it takes months to get it back you should evaluate whether you have an adequate business partner there.

There are other ways to advertise. Some might not be a convenient as Google but they are probably (hint: test) even better.

If you run a campaign on Google it all looks easy and fast. The only problem: the whole world is watching and can reverse engineer what your'e up to.

Thanks! Great advice! I actually do use different methods for things, but thought that it would be helpful to inform others that just because your account got canceled doesn't mean it's gone for good (since I've seen posts where people have had the same thing happen). Thanks a lot for posting some awesome advice! =]

I'm just starting out with buying WSOs and curious. What would make Google cancel an account to begin with? I want to make sure I don't make the same mistake. It's scary to think you could lose your account just for following the advice of a WSO.

You shouldn't follow the advice of a WSO blindly. You should always check for the rules and guidelines right?
Congrats Lewis. Play by the rules and you should easily bank some serious moolah. It should be easier now since most IM'ers got banned.

they drive me nuts. I was running with them for years no problems...then one day they decide they do not like my sites and email me. So I paused every campaign right away...forgot about it for about 2 months. Logged back in one day "banned from Adwords..." W.TF.. I get in touch and tell them they can see I paused every campaing the day they emailed me.......Sorry no chance of getting re-activted. No explanation..nothing. I can't stil lwork out what was wrong. It was my own sites, own products..but I guess they woke up one day and decided I was public enemy number 1. I hate having to jump through their B*S* hoops every day.

It is very possible but it is a doozey to work any sense out at some times.

A while back a persons account here was suspended, then after rebuilding the site to comply, and with many letters we were able to have the account unsuspended and fully cleared / approved from G.

Now several months later, the same site approved by G and cleared to run has now been permanently suspended again for breaching rules, this is with no changes since being approved.

Enough to drive a person to drink to figure out whole holds the official rule book as it seems randoms make many calls with out clear black and white guidelines at times, so the long process starts again to unsuspended the account once more.

I thought an Adwords ban means you are not allowed to open another account (that's what they told me). That means you must be opening accounts with none of your previous details which I thought was something they also did not allow.

I was banned because I was sending traffic to a page which later was closed and the site went to a domain parking page which Google got upset about. It did not matter the site was not my own. Their solution was for me to contact the owner of the website and get them to change it. In other words - "go away, we don't want you to ever come back, you are a crook and if you ever approach us again we will keep banning you. Go away." I argued this for weeks back and forth (nicely) and they just kept saying "change the offending site or go away". So I tried to buy the offending domain and they wanted $10,000 for it. I remain (google)addless to this day.

The best thing to do is go over the TOS. There are a few reasons that this could happen. The thing that got me was one site that had an opt-in for a free gift that could show them how to possibly save money on energy. *shrugs*. Because it was a monetary claim, it was a no-go.

A MAJOR issue with any of Google's advertising services. You never have a clear idea of what's going on. That's why I never put all of my IM eggs in one basket. Sorry to hear about Google yanking you around..

I stoped using adwords some years ago
This year I got an email saying I was banned
I asked them why am I banned and I am not even using you?
They said because the campaign I was running before I quit (fat loss for idiots) was not to there liking.
I had not promoted it for at least a year.
Glad you got your acount back all I encountered was ignorance
