What about auto-approve blogs?

Hello Warriors,
I've seen several lists with millions of links that will auto-approve your comments with high PR etc, but if you try every one of links until you complete the 10 million links you will see that they have more than 2,000 posts already from people spamming it or whatever... Do you think it is a bad practice to build backlinks in these sites that are spammed from top to bottom? would it be SEO-wise to do it or not? I have been tempted but I cant stop thinking that google would punish the sites that are doing that!
Any experiences that you want to share either good or bad doing this?
Thanks.!

Personally I think it would be bad. I've always found that if you want something good to happen you have to work for it.

I'd hate to think what sort of comments these automated sites would post for you. I'm sure they're the spammy ones that I get and I always send them to spam. Rather than help the poor sobs who use these sites I'm sure they hurt them.

I agree with you, and thats probably why I've been away of this practice,, what I need to know if there is someone that actually experienced a problem with google because of it?

I think it will be bad for your site. What you'll get from it is low quality links that may not help your site achieve high rankings.

If those websites are using nofollow in their urls then you can use those sites. Otherwise google can penalize those website for bad neighborhood.

Yes it is a bad practice. Google's Panda update was all about getting quality content to its users so spammy sites and crappy content find its place at the bottom.

I don't think blog comments hurt your site. I have ranked a website with blog comments only to the first position. Consistency and quality blog comments matter. I have did a test with just pointing a list of 500000 backlinks without checking quality and the site has indexed 15000 links and the ranking has not improved. Then the site that is ranking in 1st I have refined the list and taken only the links that produced quality for my site and it has worked fine for me.

I personally think that as long as the OBL's are low then it will help your rankings, but if the OBL's are high then it won't count for much. I don't agree that it will actually make your site worst though, just the effect of the link will not be as great if OBL's are high.

If you are leaving quality backlinks through comments they are very powerful and will give your site a nice boost. If you are spamming they don't have as much of an impact. Either way they don't hurt any of my websites.

Thanks everyone that has left a message in this post... Hey Mat! how would a robot determine if it is a quality link the one you're leaving, I mean, how it can determine if whatever you wrote was something not spammy?

  • Definitely bad practice.

I have been looking at my competition and noticed they just did a blast of auto approve. At first they ranked above me but this only lasted a few days. The one site slipped to a third page listing!
