Ranking a low comp keyword. Help!?

I am running an amazon niche site that looks something like "keyword-in-domain.com" and want to rank 50 subpages (each with different niche related product names) for long tailed keywords that looks like "keywordindomain.com/long-tailed-keyword".

Now the problem is. I had my "google honeymoon" and ranked 3 subpages #1 in the serps. Great! I had awesome conversions and only %15 bounce rate..

Now my G honeymoon is over and i have been slapped out of the serps (like always after a G honeymoon).

My long-tailed keywords are all product names that have low monthly broad searches (50 per month). Amazon and big authority sites dominates the 1 page. They have no on-page PR or page backlinks...

My question is!

Is there anyone in here that have been in a similar situation. Ranking an EXTREMELY low competetive keyword, going against Amazon and such sites?

Do I just need a couple of strong backlinks for this? i would hate to make 20 of these sites just to find out I have to struggle with backlinks for keywords that only gets 50 searches per month.

Thanks for taking your time to read this and pardon my english, im from Sweden.

Generally get some authority to the domain homepage, which will help push up your innerpages. Then backlink your innerpages with a wide diversity of links and also high pr links.

    Yes, this happens...
Now your site has been established a position in the serps and the honeymoon is over.
It shouldn't be too hard to get back your ranking, as it seems to be a pretty uncompetitive keyword.
At least you now know the potential of the site, and if it will be worth it to continue working on it.

Thank you all. You are giving logical answers. I have been thinking that way too. I just hate that the big whale Amazon is always i first place, even with very low comp. Waiting to get my backlinks indexed and building more sites now.

It is not penalised since it is no spamm site. No banners or adwords etc.. Unique content also. The "honey moon" effect has happend on all of my sites when they are only a few months old.

I have gotten some nice .edu and .gov links today that I hope will show some results in a couple of weeks.

Once the honeymoon effect gets over your site will be ranked in 4th or 5th page for your primary keywords ? Is that right ? How u usually get back the rankings..More backlinks ?? Because I have two quality sites thats 3 months old ranking well in a medium-low competition niche, suddenly it lost its ranking and I could see it ranking in 4th or 5th page...The sites have unique content and updated regularly, google still indexing them....So I wanted to know if it could be honeymoon effect ?

If I had gotten back my ranks I would not have made this thread... Read my first post again. No I have not experienced this with any of my other websites hence my thread topic.
