Different search results using different browsers?

I've noticed I'm getting different Google search results depending on what browser I use.

For example for one of my keywords my site is ranked 10 in Chrome, 9 in Internet Explorer and 6 in Firefox.

What's going on?

Search your keyword on Scroogle Scraper for unbiased results. It is the real google rankings.

    Scroogle Scraper

Another thing to try is...in top right of Google homepage...options...Web History...Disable Customization based on Search Activity.
If you did not have that disabled...that was the problem and you should now be able to see the actual rankings.

Thanks - both these did the trick (once I realised you had to be signed out of Google!).

At least now I know where I stand.

Even if you are signed out, if you do not disable custom search in the options, it will show results based on your web history.

Try to disable all your cookies and history, of your browser.

You can also use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+Shift+N (Windows, Linux, and Chrome OS) and ⌘-Shift-N (Mac) to open an incognito window.

It's not the browser that gives different search results, you can get different search results for a variety of reasons.

    1. Being signed into a Google account, meaning personalized results.
    2. Different geographic location.

    Etc...

You can have vastly different rankings depending on the country. I use this tool to check. Since most of my traffic comes from USA, I obviously want to make sure I know my rankings there instead of the country I'm in:

my site is ranked 10 in Chrome, 9 in Internet Explorer and 6 in Firefox.
truthfully saying. i don't know how it comes, maybe due to different browsers has a different searching result. or we say, your target customers has a different habit on browser using.
no matter what, i think ranking position is just a reference. take your situation as an example, it shows that your ranking position is around 7-8. we think we do not need to know what the exact position is.

    so u see.

the problem is u are the marketer and u want to find ur real rankings.

so u go tru the trouble to clear this clear that, search with this and that.

BUT will a normal person do that?

no, so it doesnt matter whether u rank 1st, but whether u rank 1st to ur prospects.
