Is it okay to use ".in" in my domain name?

Since the .com, .net or .org is already taken, I'm planning to use www.mysite.in

Is this okay in regards to SEO?

    It depend. If your website is targeted to global, then is better to use back .com domain name.
    If your target market is in India, then no doubt that .in domain name is the smarter choice for you.

    Yes, .IN is country level domain for India. If your targeted visitors are from or majority from India then it is wise to use .in domain =)

    i think that is not problem, you can see on google.com. much domain ".in" on first page

    .in means for india,in same way .uk for United kingdom.
    .com,.net,.org etc means for all countries of the world.
    So if you want to make your site globe then .com, .org, .net are better for domain.And for specific country you can take countery domains like .in, .us,etc.

    I dont know , Google lately I have seen .whatever rank just as high sometimes, top 3
    so for rankings? I dont know if it necessarily matters

    If you are doing a global website I recommend sticking to the main TLDs like com net org

    if you are targeting India then .in will rock!

    I'm not targeting the Indian traffic. So I guess using the .in is not a good idea.

    Follow up question, which of the two domain names would you prefer when we're talking about SEO?

    www.mostmykeyword.net or www.my-keyword.biz

    The first url contains the word "most" followed by my keyword and it's .net.

    I'm really having a hard time choosing which of the two domains is best for my site.

    why not go for XYZmykeyword.com? why go for a .net or .biz

    if its not an EMD (exact match com net org) then I dont think it matters much , just get the .com

    the reason I say this is SURFERs respect .coms more

    you can argue all you want that they dont
