Picking Niches/Keywords?

Hi Warriors,

I need some help giving me a little push over the line.

I've been learning about the IM game for about 9 months now and I've been through the process of trial and error with several aspects of IM. I've made some sites, optimised them for SEO, purchased some backlinks, used MS to check for competition. I made 3 sites and targeted some keywords which didn't really have a high search volume but ok competition. I ranked them on page 1 of SERPS which i was pretty happy about, but the problem is they are not really buyer intent keywords. I don't mind that i did it, it was more about the learning process then making money.

Now i'm sitting here with my knowledge of getting things to rank ok, optimising the pages and giving enough decent content to the user to make sure they don't bounce.

Here's where you can help me!

Now it's time to take my learnings and try to make some money. I want to use adsense and i want to make sites with decent information that gives the user something back, not just tries to get them to click on the ads. But i'm having trouble deciding which niches/keywords to target? Obviously i want to have a decent CPC value because i want to invest some time and money in to the project.

Does anyone have any methods the use in this research? Do you go with niches you are familiar with and knowledge already? Do you just use MS to find high searched, low comp niches/keywords and then research the information and make it available to the searchers?

Any help would be great, any recommendations on eBooks or whatever else.

Thanks Warriors!

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I just want to answer your question regarding keywords/niches.

Well, as for choosing for the right niches consider few things. First, you must think of a niche that's unique and has a very few competitors. Second, think of a niche that will be somehow interesting or you have knowledge about.. Choosing the right keywords is also essential for you to succeed in SEO/Link-building. An extra "S" at the end of a keyword may rank differently than others without an "S" (singular-plural) example: "Designer" and "Designers". You're right about choosing a keyword with less competitors. Just keep it up! Hope this post helps.

I think it's great that you want to provide valuable content. We all know it can be easy to make a junky site just to get clicks.

As far as niches, I would suggest that you create sites on topics you have interest in. I'm sure if you think about it long enough, you will come up with plenty of ideas. If that doesn't help, there are always tools like Micro Niche Finder that will help you come up with ideas.

The main focus has to be the top 10 competitors for your market and the main keywords they are targeting. Make a list of 25-50 long tail keywords (2-3+ word phrases) that your 10 top competitors is optimizing there whole website for. Then walk through there whole marketing funnel or process to there sale or service. If they have optin in place sign up for there program and see what type of emails they send. What is there email process, are they using training before they sale. Or they giving tips and then the sale. Document everything in there sales process from the keywords search in google to what page you goto and there sales process. I Hope this help. If you would like me to demonstrate in a video I will. Just send me a private message.

For Adsense, I'd recommend only targeting 'product' keywords or 'buyer' keywords. CPC, your CTR, and subsequent earnings will usually be higher for these. As for finding good ones, I use Keyword Sniper Pro 2.0 to dig up long tail keywords with decent searches and little to no competition. Grab a domain, hosting, and build a site with the Clickbump Engine theme from Scott Blanchard, get it optimized, and you'll be earning in no time!

It is better to target keywords that have more than 2000 exact searches per month.
